  • Poll: Any Interest in a Cars and Trucks Sub Forum??

We all love hawks, we all love bikes, but a lot of us love our four wheeled vehicles as well. Cars and Trucks don't have a spot here. They sometimes get talked about in Off Topic, but they have no real home.

What do you all think about a sub to talk about cars and trucks and anything else of the four wheeled persuasion?

Personally, I find any talk on here positive, it's what keep us coming back. But I know some others may mind.

I'm on another web forum that discusses EVERYTHING: adventure bikes, street bikes, old bikes, new bikes, cars, trucks, real estate, humor, rumor. I find it refreshing to come here and just have Hawk-related topics. That site is not a fraternity but a free-for-all. Of course, postings could always go under Other.

I said yes, You don't have to go to that link if you don't want to, but how does it hurt to have the option. I'm a big fan of forums but FB and Instagram and other shitty sites are killing them.

"Off Topic" seems good enough to me.

If it may help with spurring some discussion while not turning off other users then I'm all for it. If it drives people away, then I'm not.

No one makes any money here. We (chuck Bob and I) spend time and/or money to keep this place up. We keep it ad free just how Soul started it. No one will ever make a cent here.

With that said, we need our user engagement to rebound. We are doing better than a lot of other forums. That doesn't mean we don't see a gradual decline in user activity.

It's always been a tight nit group here. But the less posts, the less there is for people to read, the less often people need to check in, the less they post. Vicious Cycle (or as Kenny says Vicious Circle, like PacMan).

Honda ain't making any more hawks.

Every time a hawk gets parted, sold to a non-member or pushed to the back of a garage never to see sun again that's one less user to post about it.
I think for the long term viability of this place people need to talk about more than just hawks.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm not. It ain't easy. .
Said it a million times. I'm not here because I love hawks. I'm here because I love our community. The community is by far and away the best part about the Honda Hawk gt. Always thinking of ways to help keep it alive..

Agreed. The other forum I frequent DTT. It has all bikes, old or new and subforums for lots of other interests. You don't have to go look but it really is cool to see what people do outside of bikes. I joined here for the Hawk specific knowledge and glad I did. If a few sub forums keep people checking in then they are also likely to see when someone needs hawk specific info too.

I don't think another subforum is going to drive anyone away. I frankly almost never got to sub-forums. I just hit "today's posts" to see the new stuff.

I understand about the viability of the site, and would change my vote to Yes if it would help its survival.

There was a specific BMW R1100/1150R site which has failed because the bikes are twenty years old, and are sparse, like the Hawk GT.

Here's an idea: Why not broaden our scope to include sub-forums on all Honda 52 degree V-twins? You know the drill: Shadow, Revere, Ascot, Africa Twin, Transalp, Deauville, Pacific Coast. Those bikes are mentioned here often. I realize that some of them have their own sites, but there is quite a bit in common from the Honda parts bin.

That's an interesting idea. And makes some good sense.

Just sayin'. Honda made the 52 degree twin in many variations from about 1985 to about 2010. That is a large number of motorcycles over 25 years, and I would guess that Hawk/Bros production was less than 10 percent of them. I know the Transalp folks have their own forum, but Transalps are dwindling like Hawks. My riding buddy with the VT500 Ascot, a sweet little bike, has no place to go to my knowledge.

But the cars that are owned by the people who own hawks, tend not to be your normal cars. They are sold cars, cult cars, cars like chucks falcon a new take on the 69s muscle commuter..

From what I have gathered there is a damned interesting car collection if we scan out users base..

I belong to the Rebel3 forum because I bought the Rebel 1100 DCT model. They have 300-500-1100 so they call it the Rebel3 forum. They tend to not like any posting of the 250/400 80's type Rebels. Also when people post threads, they often don't mention what model they are posting for so any search will bring up all models. I am only interested in the 1100 posts as the others don't have anything I want to read. I have mentioned that any 1100 posts heading should include 1100- just because of searching problems and many 1100 have done that to their new posts.

So making changes impacts searching. How will this be addressed is a question to think about.
