    Another useless rant about Hawks

Am I the only one that gets annoyed with people seeing my bike on the sidestand then letting me know my chain is loose? Sometimes I try to explain that the rear of the bike has been raised and it's a function of the geometry when unloaded, other times I just reply thanks.

I just smile and tell them, well No actually it doesn't.

I love correcting people and them educating them.

if you raise the rear of a hawk, the swingarm is tilted down alot when noone is sitting on the bike.

the more the swingarm is angled away from straight back, the shorter the wheelbase is.. (aka, the rear wheel comes closer to the motor.

well, you need the chain loose enough that as the swingarm swings back, it has chain slack... otherwise, the chain is stretched way too tight.

so when the bike is sitting there, it has more slack then most other bikes... plus the chain is very visible on hawks..... and people comment that the chain is loose.

ya when you set the chain slack its much easyer to have some one sit on the bike wile you adjust then you know its set right when your on the bike.

Yep mine is super loose when its unloaded. I was going over the bike before a long trip and thought it looked a bit looser than usual but when I compressed the shock it was right to spec.
