    Do you watch "Epic Rides"

I was so hoping it would be an entertaining show but it just is not.

It is like watching someone win the lottery. I didn't win so who cares. The Bastards!

The last one I saw inparticular hit me hard.

It had 3 folks that were going on this "Epic Ride"

A younger kid who owned a dirtbike, A Cute chick that did long rides on her Buell and a guy on a 2006 GSXR 1000.

So they have no clue what they are doing, dirtbike, touring, sportbike riding...

They have STEVE RAPP (Daytona 200 winner before he won it) Eric Metzger (dirtbike extreme dude, used to race and do X games) and the Host guy as Leaders.

Long story short they get outfited with brand new GXSR 600 and 750's and they go to the Track and who shows up but Team Suzuki (Maladin, Spies and... I forget the other guys name)

and this is the part that got me. Who do you think went the SLOWEST on the track? Looked like the guy was out for a sunday morning ride!

    Wait for it

The dude on the GSXR 1000!!! I mean WHAT the hell! Go get a cruiser you flipping POSER!!!
He even admitted to just going fast in a straight line! Friggin SQUID!

    What a waste!

Ok but the dude did learn a little and the other two seemed to have a great time........

But WHY BUY A GSXR1000 and not know how to ride? I realize these are the new "cruiser" (I don't agree with it but I realize it) and people are making em into chromed out drag bikes but this was a STOCK 2006 GSXR!

Someone be with me on this.

Never heard of the show, but I'm glad I missed it. I get so annoyed when I see people dicking around on more machine than they know what to do with. People that buy ass jewelry and call themselves bikers running around on litre bikes with more chicken strips than a Bojangles meal deal are screwing up the rep of legitimate sportsmen like ourselves. But we all know this [/rant] At least the guy was willing to go to a track that wasn't a straight line and hopefully was willing to learn from the opportunity to be on the track with a friggin race team. Or maybe he just wanted to be on T.V. with his shiny toy

well the chick that normally rides an enduro bike was kickin ass for her first time on a real motorcycle, on a real race track. that was cool.

          whats the deal with that
every women i have ever riden with has the touch and can make the bike do just what they want. (like taking turns just has fast has me!)
cant say the same for every guy i have gone ridding with even thou they all think they got it, some times they dont.

it was funny because the host of the show took full advantage of the deal and took off with the pro riders and forgot the three people the show was about. i dont blame him.

i was impressed metzger can ride a street bike really good. he was rolling around the track with the pros too.

Did the pros look like they were taking it easy out there for the novices?

if its an enduro bike, my guess on that would be that she rides in enduros... and that means she has the dedication to it to get atleast decent at it... its not an easy sport... and its highly technical, so you learn great throttle/brake/clutch control. alot of that does transfer over to streetbikes...
meanwhile, if you just jump on a streetbike, you can get away with halfassing clutch releases, and getting "close enough" on the brakes 99% of the time.. then when the time comes, some can rise to the occasion, some cant.

if they didnt think they "got it", they wouldnt be there to begin with....lol
most women in the sport HAVE to be good.. they get so much shit for it otherwise that only the strong survive.

I missed the opener but the old TIVO is now set to record the series.
For those that didnt see it check out SPEEDTV channel.

Mike Metzger is actually a really cool dude.
I went over to Mettet, Belgium
once to watch the SuperMoto races and ended up helping out in the American pit crew!!!

Its in French but if you scroll to the bottom you can see pics of them.
The race takes place in the centre of the town and they close the roads to allow it to happen.

Anyway in the team were Mike Metzger, Drew somebody and Ben Karlson (who now races for the KTM USA factory SM team). All were really nice dudes but Metzger was hardcore!
Where everybody else was running 4 strokes he refused that and wanted a CR500!!
As you may know these are nutter bastards bikes with a MASSIVE 2 stroke hit and are known to be hard to ride fast.
He just got on and made it go!!!!!

If youre in Europe and you like SM you HAVE to go to this race. Its just awesome and you get to watch world class SM racers up close, and in my case pit for them. Stayed in a hotel up the road with my mates, one of whom was the manager of the US team, and spent the night drinking with all of my SM heroes including Dave Jeffries RIP (of TT fame), Chris Walker (WSB) and other eurpopean SM champions!

anyone watch last nights show? I grew up in Oceanside, and have been on that road in a car and its pretty intense. palomar mt is like 15-20 miles of solid switchbacks and cliffs, extremely well known place in southern California for bike riding. I may get some shit for this but, I road for two years before I moved and never did I go take a ride up the mountain. me being a rookie at the time and hearing stories about people DIEING at least once a year, I felt I wasnt ready to ride palomar. after a few years of valuable experience I cant wait to ride that mountain, but its out of my reach now.

has for this show they have yet to produce a "epic ride" for sport bike fans. there first attempt they take three people that don't ride sport bikes and go to willow springs. I blame the producers for picking nonsport bike riders for that episode, well there was that one guy with the gsxr1000 but he wasn't even a squid, he was a flat out poser.
last nights episode has two 05cbr600rr riders and a vfr800 guy. at least they had some common sense to pick the right people this time. for what would have been a nice day of riding (just has long as no one went wide and ran into a oncoming car or flew off a cliff) but mother nature put a stop to that. they must have filmed this episode in the middle of winter because palomar rarely gets snow. they did make a pretty nice attempt to save the day by doing a little supermoto.
well im curious to see what they will try next, because another flop would be three strikes and in California that means hard time. Or did they amend that law?

I just think the show sucks. I can't hear the Chatterboxes really well, the story line sucks and Johnson can't comment his way out of a paperbag.

They need to get a real commentator for voices overs and have some Hot chick interviewing the riders, more helmet cams and better chatterbox discussions.

The premiss of the show is GREAT and I want to know how to submit myself for an "Epic Ride" because I am sure the rides are awesome! It just doesn't come across well to me on the TV.
