What Did You do to Your Hawk Today.

This was and is a very successful thread on the FZ forums I am a member of. It was started by CrazyBiker from those sites.

Today I stripped down the new to me 88 for one it needed a major cleaning and two clean carbs, check vacuum hoses and just get a general lay of the land. Replaced clutch and brake levers. Flushed brake system and add Galfer sintered pads up front. I was hoping to get a set of wheels from a person on the forum but have yet to hear anything back so I have found a rear on the bay for cheap.

I plan on getting a set of Bridgestone BT016'd in the following sizes (on stock wheels) 160/60/17r and 110/70/17 is there any issues running these sizes?

I did nothing on my Hawk today.I did however measure up the differences between the 919's stock front end and the 50mm Marzocchi F4 frontend I'm building up for it. 4 pot Rc51 nissins,310mm(up from 296) lightened rotors,Carrozerias, Full F4 triple set with risers,CF front fender.

I thought I would take the 10 minutes to install my new chinese igniton switch to the wire harness on the bottom of my original switch only to find that they do NOT match up. Now I have to try to work out how to make a three wire switch work for a 6 wire ignition...

(EDIT) oh, and I spent a couple hundred bucks on the innerweb buying seals etc to rebuild the 4pot brakes on the front of my Bros.

Got mine all taken apart with the best weather of the year. Bad wheel bearings. Thought I had all the parts that I needed so proceeded to disassemble. Found that, unfortunately, no VFR 800 eccentrics don't fit on a Hawk. I have the bearing coming but in the meantime, couldn't see putting it all back together just to take it apart again.

In fact, you can see the VFR hub over on the right in the picture compared to the Hawk hub over on the left.

There is a similar thread on Ducati.ms

                  http://www.ducati.ms/forums/11-ducat...aby-today.html

not nearly as good as the "tag game" thread, ChuckRacer can explain the rules.

If you ask me those are fine in winter, summer time is for riding!

Why would it foul when it is not even running?

You havent found the culprit of that yet? I figured you would have diagnosed it by now. That would suck.

Is the pet cock completely turning the flow of gas off. I've seen crank bearings gall up from fuel running into the cylinder and eventually getting to the bottom end of the motor. You may have the same problem but leaving just enough fuel int the cylinder to foul the plug on start up.

Rick +1, try turning off your gas and run her on idle until she dies I'll bet there's no fouled plug next week.

If so you've got a leaking float valve. Check your oil ( smell it) my bet it smells a bit like gas... As the bike sits with fuel on top on the piston ( because the float valve is leaking ) some of the gas will leak past the rings and end up contaminating your oil as well. Change it! And get back after those float valves.
