I was wondering for those of you that ride with your girl/wife or other passenger often, how comfy is the co-pilot seat? Is the Corbin more or less comfortable for the passenger? What about the pilot?
I have a corbin gunfighter +lady with the detachable back rest that I throw on when I take the kids or wife for a spin. Wouldn't trade it for the world with the back rest for the kids to help them stay on. The wife also says that it is a whole lot better than riding on the stock seat.
-God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I had to kill because they annoyed me.
Before I got a gunfighter and lady (no backrest), my wife said that the stock saddle wasn't too uncomfortable I find that hard to believe. She does say that the corbin feels a lot more secure, as the stocker slopes backwards. I will say that with the corbin on she doesn't slide into me so much under braking. I also once took my brother on the back of my Hawk, and he felt there was little to sit on.
As far as the pilot end, the foam is firmer, which is a good thing in my opinion. It's more supportive, and not at all uncomfortably firm. The profile is much flatter than stock, so you slide forward less. It's also taller, and crucially, wider under your thighs. Something of interest for those of limited inseam It definitely feels like you sit 'in' the corbin rather than 'on' the stock saddle. I think this is due to the profile.
Speaking of saddles, I'm literally in the middle of re-upholstering my stock saddle, new foam and all. I've been taking pics along the way and will post a thread detailing it.
I have a G&L and G solo. The G&L definitely raises the seat height by around 1.5-2" but also slightly makes it feel less cramped in terms of legroom long rides. The passenger seat is pretty thick, but the footprint is still limited by the available area. It doesn't slope backward, as others have mentioned.
I also have a Corbin solo. It DOES slope somewhat backward, though it's a bit thicker/wider and easier to ride on than the stock. I haven't used it with a passenger, though. It's slightly wider than stock but doesn't add much seat height, though it does keep you from bumping and grinding the gas tank.
FYI, if you plan to travel, having the G&L seat also allows you to throw larger saddlebags over (assuming you have a stock exhaust) with better clearance.
