    Bros / Hawk distribution

From what I can gather, Hawks are fairly unusual in the UK and 99% of the grey imports are in the form of the Bros, whereas in Continental Europe the Hawk appears to be more popular than the Bros. Is there any particular reason for this? Something to do with import taxes maybe?

No, neither modell has ever been officially imported to Germany.
Hence Hawks number no more than about 300 here in Deutschland.

My understanding is that when the Hawk flopped in the US, Honda allocated a bunch to Germany and/or Holland to shift them. So while they weren't officially imported, Honda was involved in bringing the Hawk to Europe, and they were sold in Honda dealerships as new bikes.

I personally imported my Hawk to the UK, btw.

              Where from ??? Japan ???

In Greece there are a lot of Bros 400 cc and some 650 . I have the PGM 400 cc version . There were also some Bros 650 PGM imported ( Hawk Type II ) but these are extremely rare . What I have learned from older biker is that a Bros import lightly used would cost at that time same with a 4 cyl ss .No question to import it new ...

A few days ago I came across a Bros parked along the sidewalk . It Had something strange on it . Giving it a better look I noticed that the light and clip ons were colored black. Then I noticed what I had never seen before , the Type I logo on the frame . And yes it was a hawk gt . The very first one I see in Athens . I'll try to get some pics .

              (ex)spambot exterminator .

I used to live in the US, so rode my bike to a shipping company's in New Jersey, USA. They rode it onto their big boat, and Four months later I picked it up in Southampton, England. It should have taken about Six weeks. It only took so long becuase Customs in the US dragged their feet with the paperwork, so it missed it's first sailing. Bastards, that was a great summer of riding I missed out on!

I believe I paid around $600.00 USD in 2003, including the UK customs and excise bill. It's called Ro-Ro in the industry, or Roll-On-Roll-Off to the rest of us. I was instructed to bring it in running order to the shipping yard with no more than 1/4 tank of fuel, and was told it's a good idea to remove the licence plate. I sprayed the everything I could with WD40 when I left it, trying not to get the brakes and it survived fairly well. The battery was kaput when it got here though. I don't know how old the battery was at the time (at least Three years), but I suspect sitting out in the salty air for so long may have contributed to it's death.

It was interesting to ride it back to Cambridge almost entirely on B-roads, the very long way. I went via the Salisbury Plains and up to Luton before cutting east.
