I ended up with 123 hp and 73 torq. Thats around stock but a like highewr by like 2 hp. The torq was very nice and flat and constant.

A Hawk must to feel like a moped compared to that. I've often wondered how other members with more modern or faster bikes (I know there are many on here) find jumping on the Hawk in comparison. I'm guessing it's got to feel as slow as hell. I can only assume the light weight, comfort and handling makes up for this.

you get a nice set of curves, and the hawk feels much much faster and... well it just feels better.

the only thing the bigger bikes have is more fun in a straight line.

I disagree: I love little bikes and really dig muh Hawks but if I had to have only one bike,it wouldn't be an NT...as painful as that is to say. While a Hawk is fantastic in curves I'm honestly not that good of a rider to really take advantage of what it can do.Actually, other than in the very, very tightest of turns I can ride a bigger bike just as well and often times better- if the road is 80-100mph sweepers,a Hawk is starting to get a little frustrating. It's really nice being able to ride on the slab at 1/5 throttle and have enough stability to not worry about cross winds or passing lines of semis-not to mention more tank range and space to bungee stuff.

Nobody should get offended - love the Hawk and always will but _for me_ there are better single bikes out there- doesn't mean I like em as much, just that I can often enjoy riding them more.

lol, id agree with that... you basicly just highlighted the faults of the hawk.
it also sucks for 2up riding.

buuuuuut.. when it comes to a bike you can jump on everyday, and enjoy some curves too and from the store, there are very few bikes close to it.

to be perfectly honest, i have my eyes glued on this new water cooled 1125cc buell... its fugly, but i think it might be my next bike.

The lighter weight of the hawk makes up for some of its shortcomings (driving 1 up, of course)... Now, stuff a bigtwin harley in that little hawk and you'd have, well, a buell. But a monster torque curve and hp numbers more like deadlegos gixxer.

unless its a evolution motor, i dont want a harley motor anywhere near my hawk... or any air cooled motor for that matter.

now that rotax thats in the buell.... mmmmmmmmm maybe.

You don't mean evolution, then. The liquid cooled VR based one in the v-rod or the rotax... evo is the post shovel head, pre- revolution (twin-cam) engine. Someday I'll do a photoshop harley/hawk mod. Isn't the rotax in the ktm superduke?

isnt the evolution the new vrod one?

rotax motors are in alot of things, but i was thinking of the one in the '08 buell 1125R...

It has been a little hard to keep track of the new engine names... old school bikers don't like anything past the shovelhead. as far as I know the lineage goes like this- flathead (sidevalve engine)30's/40's, panhead 50's/60's, shovelhead (sometimes called ironhead on the sportsters)57 on the sportster, 60's & 70's on the bigtwin, evolution (sometimes called blockhead) 80's to about '93, twincam (sometimes called revolution) 93- present, then come the vr porsch designed engine in the v-rod, then the new rotax/buell engine, which ,since not technically a harley, probably will not get a fancy name (but may be the best sportbike engine buell has). Only the vr and the new rotax are liquid cooled.

                      hum im the opposite

but im just like most hawk riders. it gets old after a wile, people blowing by you on the straits. woundering what 120mph feels like.

i got the 95 lightning s1 for more but i didnt like that bike at all so i sold it.

the rc51 comes close but dude1 is right its not has fun to ride and doesnt handle has well in the turns maybe some taller tires would help. i have ridden with guys that have busas and they literaly have to pull the bike over to get it to turn. im sure deadlegos heavy old gsxer is the same.

theres some thing about pushing a slow bike to its limits that just puts a smile on my face.

its taken me a wile to realize this but if i was allowed only one bike it would be a hawkgt for sure.

hay dead whats the top speed on that thing
you got about the same amount of horses as me
                      i can hit about 168

Nice top speed My old fj1100 would do about that (a few mods ).
Oh, and above I forgot the knucklehead harley- 1930s-40's

thats what i like to call stupid fast

i have had the bike past the 140 mark only two times
i really dont see the point. and rearly take it past 120

it scares me to think what could happen to me if my tire blows out or an animal runs out in front of me at that speed.

im not sure of the top speed. The guy did it on the dyno in 4 gear. It toped out at like 165 in the 4 gear. I know it will easly do that................... The bike I think will top out around 180 to 190 I think in 5 gear. Its a bad thing when the white lines in the middle of the road become soild...

As far of them speeds I know what you mean. Its bad to think about. The problem is when im out rideing If I hit a deer or large dog and if i go down at 100 + I would be servely injured or killed.

I dont want too and dont think about what will happen if i hit a car at like 50 or what ever. When im rideing im think about is what the other drivers are doing.

as far as the turning goes. its not hard. you dont have to pull. you counter steer it. It falls in the conners. I think its very fun. Buts its a big bike. I can go 70 in like 1st gear.... i can run 50 in 2nd and have it tac about hmmm 6000 to 7000 with read line around 12000. Most of the time I run about in 3rd it tacs like 5000 to 6000 and pulls good if i need it too.

Its simple even if you doing 50 mph if that happens you will most likely go down. Thats one reason that I wear a long sleeve leather, leather gloves full face helmet. If I go down it will talk alot to go threw them.
