    Hard luggage

I've been looking for a hard lockable tail trunk that I can fit to my hawk.

So far, I've found this on Ebay:

Does anybody know of any others, or major manufacturers, have any tips, or advice? Has anyone else put a trunk on? I know it seems diametrically opposed to fit luggage to a hawk, but I love it too much not to ride it as much as possible.

    Thanks,
    Bob

Sorry, I probably posted this in the wrong section
It should be in General Discussion. Is it possible to slap me and move this post?

Now that I have a VFR in addition (lucky me), the Hawk gets by with no more luggage than a tankbag.

However, I used to have a full set of Givi bags (side cases & top box) on my Hawk. I did this by custom-mounting a Givi wingrack.

Prior to that, I used a Givi universal mount kit for a top-box-only rack, and used a Givi top box.

And, prior to that, I used a Ventura luggage rack.

The ventura rack is the easiest to mount - as it is designed for the Hawk - but I don't know how well it would handle the weight & stress of a hard top box over an extended length of time.

The custom-mounted Givi wingrack was at the other end of the spectrum - a real pain to figure out & mount, but it gave me pretty good carrying capacity for a decent length of time (till it cracked the rear turn-signal-mounts, which I used as part of my mounting points).

The Givi universal mount top-box rack
http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade...view/1881/137/ is a good compromise between the two - still requires some work with a dremel (or similar) to cut the mounting brackets to where they will work, and also allows a fair amount of weight (depending upon how/where you attach the rack.

Given that the rear rack sits right over the tail light - which is low & is angled up - you may want to consider adding a supplemental tail light to any top-box that you mount.

I found an autocad file on the net of someones custom rack for hard luggage. It looks pretty straitforward and would probably only cost around $50 for materials and labor if you took it to a local fabrication shop. (I'm guessing). I can post up the file if anyone is interested and can open a .dwg file.

I was looking that route myself, too. lol. Thanks for the leads, Ron.

Sure, post it up. I've got some skills bending, cutting, welding and grinding. I figured the whole mount would be up to me anyway -- I mean what kind of a human being sets out to find the most stripped down factory bike; and then, after finding it, looks for locking, secure luggage for it

Doin' the preliminary research now. When I get underway, I'll be posting photos.

          Thanks all, Bob.

              -- Thanks !

I just sent the file to the only guy I know with Autocad. He says, he might just be able to "dump" the program in "The Machine," and... (see what happens.) Meanwhile, he's sending me a hardcopy so I can actually see it. Will be keeping you all posted.

Here's a link to an upload of a scan of a printout of the blueprint on the file that was pmd.... phew.

I know the quality is not very good, but maybe someone can help me figure it out.

I remember having technical savvy (back in Kindergarten,) so I photocopied and cut out the diagram and came up with these 3 peices:

I just can't figure out how to stick em together. -- that and I'm swamped at work today.

                      Maybe I need a 1/2 paper mock-up of a Hawk GT

Just kidding !! I saw the opener for the current T.P.B. season at a bar in Halifax called Bubble's Mansion. Owned by... Bubbles. Cast at the party included Lehey, Randy (didn't even bring a shirt), Officer George Greene, Ricky, Julian, Bubbles, Sam, Sarah
