Going to JD Hord's in 2 weeks....questions though

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be in JD Hord's area in 2 weeks and he'll be installing some gold valve emulators on my stock forks. I'm also getting a new chain and sprockets. Which chain do you guys recommended and which sprockets?

Also, are there other parts you would recommend I get from him?
I have a stock 1988 hawk right now.

it all depends how much you want to spend

but if hes going to open the forks up get some progressive or recetech springs. money well spent if you ask me.

as for chain a sprockets, its all the same to me, go cheap with those. but ask him his recommendation on gearing.

he will ask you what type of riding will be doing and if you say anything about freeway riding on a regular basis then he will set you up with something that will get you at a better rpm wile at freeway speed. if your not worried about that then he will give you a shorter gearing that will have more acceleration.

I should also mention I won't be bringing my Hawk to JD's, just the forks.

So far my shopping list includes:

race tech gold valve emulators
race tech fork springs
DID o-ring Chain
fork seals
front sprocket (not sure which one yet)
rear sprocket (not sure which one yet)

I plan on doing the exhaust and jet kit/filters next spring

I'd say...since your gonna be face to face with the man of all men, you should ask him what he thinks. He will have a much vaster knowledge to give you a better answer. That's my opinion, I am also jealous that you are going to meet him in person for advise, that's like a monk finally meeting budda

It is pretty neat that I'll be in his area for labour day weekend. My wife is originally from Norwalk Ohio, about 35 miles from where JD is. We visit her family at least 2-3 times a year.

AFAM and PBI make a good sprocket, I have an AFAM on the back right now and something on the front, I did the 520 conversion and I'm running a Regina chain. Mine is taller than stock.

No help needed on this thread, OP. JD will lead you in the right direction regarding the mods your considering, just ask him! He is the only one to molest my bikes parts besides me....
