        Apologies,
I was probably overly cryptic, I just thought it was an interesting approach from the Japanese, generally their enginering is so conventional.

Oh ok, thanks for pointing that out!

Blade, I just didn't see too much there that was "unconventional". I mean the hawk has it's unique qualities, as does any bike, but it's built around established technology.

            Makenzie,
As far as I am aware, every other sport bike manufacturer addressed the v twin vibration problem by either selecting the 90 degree cylinder configuration which is naturally balanced but bulky or in Aprillia's case a 60 degree with counterbalance shaft which is compact but more complex (and I'm guessing heavier).

What Honda did with it's compact 52 degree layout (not specifically with the hawk) was offset the crank pins to make the crankshaft perform like a 90 degree layout with no aditional components. I thought it was pretty cool, anyway honourable men can differ.

Honda, MotoGuzzi, and a few others had already done that, though. Check out Honda's old CX line (I think it's the CX...the Plastic Maggot)...not THAT bike was far from "established tech". How many other engines can you think of that use both chain driven cams AND push-rodas?
