    Hawk Dilemer

Here in London there is a Hawk with what I think has Dutch plates on it. It has sat outside in a bike bay for 18 months and never moved. We have left notes on it asking if the owner wants to sell it, but the notes are still on the bike. We have even put an old bike cover on it to help the bike and to stop anyone nicking bits off it. So should we just let it rot ? how do we get in touch with the owner? or should we just liberate it and give it a good home?

If it has not been moved for 18 months I'd be very tempted to claim it. However, I wouldn't want to get arrested for bike theft so first I'd try to find some way to trace the owner. Could you find someone in Holland to do an unofficial trace on the registration. Are there any locks on it? I'm surprised it hasn't been lifted already.

Yep there is a disc lock on the front. Probably why no one has tried to move it

Here in the states, you can apply for what's called abandoned vehicle paper work. Towing companies apply for it all the time when they tow in a car or bike and the owner doesnt have the money to pay the impound/towing fees so they just leave the vehicle at the towing companies lot. After a few months, the tow guys apply for the ABA paper work to obtain a Title and are able to legally sell the vehicle or to fix up/ part out. Does your Dept. of Motor Vehicles have anything like that over there you can apply for?

So THIS is where my previous Hawk is. sorry guys, it`s mine. ship it over to me and there`s no Harm done. or you may keep it if you cough up 3000 euro.

serieusly, what`s the number on the plate? I can track it from here.
What was the start of all this?
When did the cogs of my Hawk begin to turn?
Perhaps it is impossible to grasp the answer now,
from deep within the flow of time...

But, for a certainty, back then,
I loved it so much, yet hated so many.
I hurt others and was hurt myself...

Yet even then, I rode like the wind,
              whilst my laughter echoed
              under cerulean skies...

you can probably lookup the owner from the tag or the VIN.

i had to do a trace on a couple cars in the past here... not fun, but it was worth it in the end.

I just had contact with a guy I know down in London. he asks where he can find the bike.

So I`ll need the plates and the location.

and no, I`m not coming over to nick it :P

I cant disclose the whereabouts just yet so if your not gonna nick it why would you need the plates and VIN? Someone else gonna nick it instead????

                        No, don`t worry

The guy I`m reffering to used to have a NTV. but if I can get the plate number I can maybe trace it by means of a dutch Hawk board, and via a site that registers all dutch vehicles.

And the reason he wants to know where it stands is to see if recognises it. he runs (or used to run, I dunno) a bike motel where a lot of Dutchies came.

He and/or me are not gonna nick it. :P

Here in the states that bike would be considered abandoned property. There is a legal process that allows an individual to take ownership of it but it takes some time and the person taking it must make efforts to reach the owner. I've heard of bikes like that becoming track bikes
