i just heard the quote of the day...

me and a couple co-workers were talking about bikes..
the subject of ducatis came up, and one of them said:

"Ducatis are like dog shit.. The older they get the easier it is to pick them up"

on a related note, i donno if i mentioned it, but i rode a hypermotard 1100s around lastweekend.
i liked it. alot. if i owned one, id get is SOOOO much trouble with it.. lol. and i could get a killer deal on it... but i looked at the insurance... im not paying 4k a year for insurance..... lol.

I've had a few Ducs and while they're OK,I never got bit by the bug.Honestly, they ain't that special.Kinda wish the SPS was still around but the RSV-R is so much better of a bike to actually ride and own,I don't miss it all that much. The last 750SS was just a bad idea- I felt like a bad parent riding it

I think Duc's are cool to look at, but that's about the extent of their appeal for me. I like something that is dependable, and trouble-free - like a Honda.

my hawk has been mistaken for a ducati on several ocassions, only when they come closer to look at it do they realize its not a ducati at all, but they are still interested. I like ducatis, they are gorgeous bikes. and around here, they are about as uncommon as hawks are. I also like Buells. :P

Why is it that everyone thinks Ducs are not dependable?

My 900ss has NEVER given me a problem.

might be back the the new 1098ss have already had recalls on starter and then you need to upgrade the "flywheel" To put the new recalled part on. I know a guy who has the 1098ss. The guy is like a friend of a friend.

With the recall if you dont fix it then the bike does not start some times. The old recalled starter does not work correctly. It works less then 1/2 the time. So then you have to puch start it......

What was the start of all this?
When did the cogs of my Hawk begin to turn?
Perhaps it is impossible to grasp the answer now,
from deep within the flow of time...

But, for a certainty, back then,
I loved it so much, yet hated so many.
I hurt others and was hurt myself...

Yet even then, I rode like the wind,
                whilst my laughter echoed
                under cerulean skies...

i ALMOST typed a disclaimer of "ignore this Doc, we're not talking about you again"... but im glad i didnt.

i dont think they're bad bikes.
i dont think they're less dependable bikes then others.. other bikes generally have problems with first year releases too.. its just that ducati has more first year releases, and remakes then most other makes..

i DO think they're overpriced, just to keep they "its a elite ducati" image.
and i do think the 999 is fugly. i dont care what anyonce else thinks of that. lol.

i do think they have kind of the right idea, in the Vtwin, and thers nothign wrong with their valve actuation method.
i dont like the fact they insist on a 90* twin, because it always makes their packaging suck.... although they usually wrap a sweet sexy body around it (except the 999)

if they knocked the price down to within a thousand of a comparible jap bike, i think they'd loose the snotty image quick.
but really, theres not much wrong with the bikes, except the cost of ownership.

                    recalls on starter
They seem to have issues with these.

Mine had a few bugs also:
My swing arm from my 748 was recalled/ checked out under a T.S.B.. My stator was recalled, and the nut that holds the fly wheel together was recalled on mine because it loosenes up and takes out the entire crank shaft. The rear spindle nut loosened up while riding and took out all of the locating pins and elongated the wheel and... Oh yea, It went brain dead upon the first 1000Mi. service when the Ducati Tech. plugged it in for a re-mapping. And the fuel pump died @ 2000 mi. But other than that, My Duck was rock solid!!! I will have to find the thief who stole it and ask him how she's doing. I sure do miss her!
