    my hawk let me down...

during lunch today.. my hawk finally let me down. she left me stranded.

apparently the upper radiator hose broke, right where it meets the thermostat... or the housing cracked.. i donno.

but she suddenly POURED coolent out... on me, on herself.. everywhere.
of course this happens during my lunch hour, far from work.

after calling almost everyone i knew (everyone working of course) i finally got someone to come help pick me and her up... in a Honda Element.

yea.. i got to hold the hawk still in the back of a honda SUV for the ride back to my house... little scary, but she didnt fall out or over.
shes home now, and im at work...
hopefully when i get home i can see the problem.. i THINK its just the hose... strange, because its a new hose... maybe the hoseclamp broke or something, i donno.

Lies! utter lies! A Hawk never leaves you starnded. you must have insulted her. called her a suzuki or something.

    ADMIT IT!

seriously though, being stranded sucks. It happened to me one morning after night shift. 5.30 in the morning on the side of the freeway with no one in sight and a empty phone is no way to start a new day. god, how I loathed every molecule of my FZR that time. (btw: it was out of fuel due to a cock up of my own accord, but let`s not talk about that now)

I hope it`s a simple problem, and that you have her up and running in no time again.
What was the start of all this?
When did the cogs of my Hawk begin to turn?
Perhaps it is impossible to grasp the answer now,
from deep within the flow of time...

But, for a certainty, back then,
I loved it so much, yet hated so many.
I hurt others and was hurt myself...

Yet even then, I rode like the wind,
    whilst my laughter echoed
    under cerulean skies...

        where was your leatherman??

you almost certainly could have re-attached hose after cutting off leaky end part. as for water, the nearest quickie-mart would be sufficient.

you could have removed fuel tank with factory tool kit.
WHAT??? you ride without tools of any sort???? notme!!
I've used my HONDA tool kit to fix several Yamahas and a Kawi or 2.

how are you supposed to get to that part of the hose?

i guess taking the tank off might get you close enough.

Dude, that sucks man! It always seems that everything gives me a problem at an awful time too...Like on my Wife's Honda, the main relay decided to go out at like 8pm on Sunday night, after everything is closed Had to wait until the next day, tow it home and fix it the following day, glad you got her home though, that's half the battle!
Damn right it's a Hawk GT

Yes being stranded does suck. I was stranded once with my qsxr 1 time. I lost the screw that hold the kick stand switch in place. and when it fell out i was haveing some fun with a old muscle car too. So when it happend the bike just die. any way it was on my way too school tooo. At least I was going to school early and somebudy stoped and had some tape.

just for the record, Kat.. the friend that helped me, is friggen awsome.
she took an extended lunch break to get my bike into her brand new SUV... (it scratched the tailgate.. its light but not THAT light. lol), got her shirt dirty, and then after all that she drove me back to work first.... all for someone she vaugly knows from a local bike messageboard... so even though she'll never read this.. thanks again kat

                  that said..
                  its not the hose.
its SOMETHING that leaks like crazy at 210*.. and otherwise doesnt leak.
i cant tell if its the Oring on the thermostat housing, the radiator cap itself, or the radiator.
i did find a small leak in the radiator, so i pulled it off.. it looks kinda suspicious.. like, vandalizm suspicious.. but it just might be a freak thing. i donno..

i'll fix the radiator tonight... and i guess i'll check out the thermostat housing thingy too. and shes probably overdue for a new rad-cap anyway....

first hope.... that its the radiator cap not holding pressure and letting it boil over... i hope its that simple.

When you said Honda SUV I was thinking "he must mean the Ridgeline,no way a bike would fit in one of those little boxey Elements... Guess they do have some utility value!

dude, that thing was bigger then it looks.

i'll be honest, i didnt have a high opinion of them, and i figured they were crap (just like their cars)

turns out, they're actually huge inside, and really nice for what they are.

plus, i cant talk shit.. my hawk fit in it.... that means its officially a potential track transport vehicle.

You owe someone lunch or better yet, a very nice dinner - she went way out of her way to help you out.

BTW, Honda makes very good cars - not sure why people feel it's necessary to dis them so much. My 2000 Civic Si ran awesome for the 73k miles I put on it in the 3 years I owned it; never a problem with it and I was in VTEC constantly.

I had an accord- great car, but no farfurnugen- which is why I have a Passat now

the element is fugly, but a very useful design for someone with a motorcycle
