    Hi Chris
I polished mine. Not too hard a job just time consuming. sit in the garage.
put some music on and beaver away. Believe it or not I find it quite theraputic

To be honset mine wernt too bad.
        I polished mine electrically.
I first used a sisal string mop. (Dark grey polishing Soap)
and then moved onto a stitched cotton mop. (Blue polishing soap)
Ifinished with a loose tied mop with a few drops of Belgom Alu (Amazing stuff)
After that its either laquer it of give it a buff with a hand cloth with a drop of Belgom Alu
I dont know how bad or deep your pitting is but I done both my lower legs in a day......steadily away with a good few coffee breaks.
        Hope that helps
