Tank mounting rubber cushions

Dumb question but where is the correct place to mount the (2) rubber pads for the side of the gas tank?

I have looked at a ton of images and there does not seem to be any convention on this.

I am sure it does not matter but depending where I place them it can make it really hard to bolt the rear down.
