I was listening to the radio the other day and someone was talking about their wife getting t-boned in their car really bad by a big truck they pulled out in front of. They told the cop, "But they had their turn signal on to turn!" The cop said, "The only thing you knew for sure was that their turn signals were working."
I'm not sure if it is just me but I compulsively press the button to cancel while riding just in case. Not sure if I could recall a frequency but I figure I do it ever time it crosses my mind. I figure at least that way noone assumes I am turning.
88 Blue Hawk GT - Under construction but rideable (guest approved)
89 BlackHawk 2.0 - On the lift and being assembled
90 Hawk GT (color as to yet be determined) - Still on the shelf in crates
The question: If a motorcycle is signaling should you assume its going to turn?
No!
I ride with a friend who has a BMW with self-canceling turn signals and he does not manually cancel the turn signal.
IMO the turn signal stays on too long after the turn is made and could cause a major issue.
Drives me crazy when I follow him.

When the light turns green, I look both ways, then proceed. A few years back, I was driving (in the car) my son to school. We're sitting at a red light at a major intersection & when it turned green, I looked to my left and saw a pickup barrelling down, clearly not going to stop. I waited for him to blow the red light, then double-checked again. But my son's reaction was priceless. He looked at me wide-eyed and said its a good thing you looked. I simply responded that it came from years of riding a motorcycle.
Red alert in Philadelphia
Heightened awareness is key in certain area's too. In all my years I've avoided all accidents except when I was in Philadelphia. I got rear ended twice there in one year. Once in my Mazda when I was stopping for a red light and the other time when I was stopping for a red light on my Aprilia Pegasus. Just be aware people in Philadelphia don't stop for red lights.

Riding or driving in Philly is something to avoid if possible.
Red light running is the norm.

Same here! And everyone in Houston is out to kill you if you ride a moto.
Almost got completely taken out on the HAWK this morning. Some stupid FUCK decided to do a u-turn in between 2 large flat bed trucks that were parked in the center turn lane (5 lane road) waiting for a roofing company to open it's gates. The trucks completely blocked the view of this dip shit initiating his terrible choice. Normally I wouldn't have stayed in that lane with those trucks, but I had too many cars to my right. All of a sudden there's an SUV coming out from BETWEEN them as I'm rolling off of 45. HARD on the (front) brakes, quickly thinking of options, I was pretty confident as long as they kept their DUMB ASS moving I could skirt by behind them to the left next to the trucks. It was 35 degrees and dark at 6:30 am today (gonna be lower 60s when I get off) so grip was not at a premium and there was NO WAY to get stopped. The front tire is barely holding on with the braking force and I got the rear end sliding out to the right a little as I approached so at the last sec when I released, the bike's rear end snapped left and went around the rear bumper. Would have been a Wile E. Coyote splat. I was calmer than I thought I would be when I arrived at work. I almost went back roads this morning like I normally do too, but wanted to stay on the brighter, faster route. Fuck, a couple seconds later and they would have just absolutely plowed me.

OK then, Happy Friday and St. Patrick's Day!
Shit boss, glad you had the skills to deal with that.
