Looking for a thread??? Stripping the paint off the wheels..

Someone on here posted how they stripped the paint off the lip of there rims and painted the centers black. I can't seem to find it anywhere??? anyone know where it is?

Just get some aircraft stripper from the autoparts store, brush it on and let it work. You can either mask off the bands and only strip them or strip the whole wheel.Get heavy nitrile gloves and wear long sleeves and by all means, use adequate ventilation. It helps to have some coarse bronze wool to shift the persistant flecks off without damaging the rims but it's easy enough to get a very 1990's looks without much effort.

I used scotch brite to scuff them up really good. I sanded any little chip or ding in the paint though. As long as you scuff it up really good (enough so that there is no more shiny spots) the paint should stick just fine.

yeah, I used duct tape because I wasn't sure if the stripper would eat through masking tape, duct tape seemed to work well. After it was stripped I used blue masking tape for the paint
