  • Anyone With Experience on the Michelin Road 6 Tires

Setting up a one of my Hawks for my eldest son. He’s a new rider. The current set up is a set of date code expired Dunlop Q2 skins on a CBRF3 front and 5.5” VFR rear wheel. Thinking he would be better off with something more Sport Touring oriented and with greater longevity.

So as the title says, looking at the Michelin Road 6 in 120/70-17 front and 160/70-17 or 170/70-17 rear.

I’ve seen some very good reviews online. A little concerned that the front tire profile is too triangulated to be the best choice for a new rider. Wondering if that would make it too prone to tip in when the beginner would benefit more from a rounder tire’s stability.

    Any feedback appreciated.

    I need a bigger garage.

It's a dirty job but someone's got to do it.

    I'm sure they are fine.

When Wes (my son) gets his hawk on the road this summer it will have the same early 2000's tires that are on there now on it, and will eventually get updated to the cheapest thing we can find.. (avons still a thing?).

They are new riders. If the tires are round and hold air then imo they will do the job. These kids are going to be out there weebele wabbling themselves around trying to figure out how it works. Not sure the tire will have much effect for them.

I have the Road 6 GTs on my BMW RT - fantastic sport-touring tires! If you are looking for a rounder profile, the sticky Bridgestone S22s are a great way to go; have those on my MT-10. I am running Dunlop Q5s on the Hawk. Also just an amazing tire - don't overlook these!

The cheapest brand-name thing going for a stock Hawk GT would likely be Dunlop Sportmax GPR-300s in 110/70 and 160/60R17. I bought a set but haven't ridden on them yet. I don't think you can get a Road 6 in 160/70R16, and I doubt you would want that size anyway.

General comment about the Michelin Road 6 is that they are going to be fine... in my opinion any new tire on a Hawk is going to be fine. And a specific comment to 6 @6 (quote doesn't seem to work) - I think you are missing the importance of good braking and I think you should focus on that and not that the young riders are doing fast riding and need tires for fast riding - but their speed is gong to increase and especially on the road they might need to be able to do emergency braking and here tires are important..

And as Dienstuhr indicates - get the proper sizes for the rims...

Cool, I’m like minded…but it won’t pass inspection here in New Yorkistan, and he doesn’t need the hassle down in the Metro area or his college town. I can handle a set of tires.

                Oops…fat-fingered typo…160/60-17 on a 5.5”x17” rear. 120/70-17 on a 3.5”x17” front.
