  • SEPTEMBER 2017 HOTM WINNER - FlyinElvis.

We Had some nice bikes in the running this month and a tough choice to pick a winner as always, but one bike usually takes it in the end. Septembers winner is this beautiful Hawk owned and modified by FlyinElvis. Congrats.

    FLYIN ELVIS

Still stinging from my defeat at the hands of hyperformication (curse you hyper!) in the hotly contested June 2016 Hawk of the Month voting (link below) I’m re-entering the competition to give BillnOroville a little competition. Can't let him just walk away with the prize, right?!?!?

You may remember my build of a blue 1988 Hawk. I've made a few changes to her appearance since then, most notably a metallic root beer brown paint job. Now before you purists curse me for painting over the blue, actually this was a beat-up red tank off a track bike that we rehabbed, and a new Fabian fiberglass rear cowl. No blue components were harmed in the build! I still have the blue pieces and they may one day end up on Hawk build number three. Time (and patience) will tell. For those who felt the headlight may have been mounted a bit too high, I've recently lowered it as much as my wiring would allow.

I'm so pleased with the Hawk and still tweaking a few items here and there. Recently acquired a Fox Twin Clicker (in the rebuild stages), new tires on order (Bridgestone T-30's), still wrestling with a new exhaust system design, etc. She'll never really be "finished".

This lovely lady never fails to put a smile on my face!

      CONGRATULATIONS Mr. FlyinElvis!!

You certainly deserved a win for the effort ... a beautiful paint job to match the rolling Honda-box (but I like the Blue better).

Well deserved! The color and finish on that paintwork alone is a winner but the more I look at the details the more I love this bike!

Many thanks to all the well wishers. We all know these bikes are a labor of love to keep on the road. I feel so very fortunate to have found this site and all the experience associated with it. I've made some long distance friends and feel that I can ask any question (no matter how ridiculous) and get an answer in a matter of hours. Seems like every day, whether I ride her or not, I'm in the garage to just take a peek and feel the pride in a machine that I envisioned and brought to fruition. Congrats to my challengers, as truth be known, we're all winners with our builds, each one unique in it's own way.

                        647cc's of salvation? You betcha...
