  • Removing the Center Stand (or, How Big Are Your Nuts?)

My center stand's rubbing the chain b/c of the new straight-pipe (a modified Muzzy collector), so the stand's got to go.

What size (metric) ratchet do I need to pick up from Home Despot for those bad boys? Because my nuts are freakin' huge!

On a related note, where do I get crush washers, to join the headers to the collector? Pep Boys, Strauss and the Plumbing Department at Home Depot have never heard of the things.

Wow, crush washers should be kinda common knowledge...I only learned about them recently in respect to brake systems though. Not sure if they'd come jumbo-sized for exhaust, but who knows.

    *My* nuts are 14mm though.

I know that crush washers for exhaust couplings exist, because they were on my pipes before I took them apart... guess it's just a matter of finding them. Probably need a moto-shop though.

My nuts should be at least as big as your nuts. Thanks.

        D'ees nuts eh!
...No seriously, my exhuast is leaking between the headers and the tailpipe. I don't want to use exhaust tape.

That's what crush washers are for. If you find any, let me know!

You know what...One of my headers just slides into the collector. There's no bracket or washer or anything. It like...just goes in. Supertrapp headers. Would that result in an exhaust leak?

I went to Home Depot today and they didn't have a ratchet attachment big enough to handle **my** nuts. Going to have to find another hardware store... I really need to get my nuts off...

                      Nice job Doug.

I keep mine in the garage and throw it on when doing work on it - two bolts and it's on again!
