My bike doesn't have any of the rubber bushings that go between the frame and tank. Are they needed?

Yep, If you don't mind the tank moving. They are rather inexpensive though...

Tannk Rubbers
Don't need them absolutely perhaps. But if you use a tank bag, the weight may push it down to where the tank contacts the frame rail and makes a noise, (from experience) and or rubs a wear mark or worse.Ride Safe!

My tank would rattle under certain conditions with out them, I used short sections of fuel line sliced n half to replace minewhatsoever your hand should find to do, do it gladly, because there is no work, love, knowledge, or wisdom in the grave...Comment
