How many Shims on the carb needle?

So I took Motorcyclemans carbs apart the other day..

I take the needle out and I noticed some added parts.

under the circlip (which was set in the middle) where 2 washers on one needle and a lil plastic "spacer" washer on the other. Both about the same thickness.

Then came the circlip and then another washer on top of each needle?

Any ideas?

Was the extra shim in the leading cylinder carb? I've heard of putting in a shim in to help balence the carbs when the jets are the same as I think they were in the '88 only. No shims or washers show up in the assembly diagram, just needle, spring and holder. I'd guess that the spacers were easier (and cheaper) then bigger jets. I'd ditch 'em.

As far as I could tell the shims were about the same size. It was just that one had two thin fashers and one had a "thick" piece of plastic the size of the 2 washers.

The washers on top were the same size.

I think the guide was a 145? both carbs.

Looks like someone needs a jet kit.

Yep, Doc, I think that would be a great idea. I'm wrong about the jetting from '88 to '89, they are the same, different from leading cylinder to trailing cylinder but they did not change from '88 to '89.

Sooo.... the two jets should be different sizes?! What should be in there? The bike appears to have the stock cams, has uni-pods and a two bros exhaust.
