    VFR400 rear wheel conversion

Will a VFR400 rear rim work on the stock Hawk spindle?

I saw a previous where it shows pictures of the NT650 with the VFR400 wheel.

It appears that this rim came in 2 sizes; 4.5"x17" and 4.5"x18". Hyperform advertises a VFR750 wheel in sizes 5.5"x17" and 5.0"x17". Does anyone know if their price includes a NOS Honda VFR wheel? I prefer the 8-spoke rim and it appears that VFR rims is harder to get from Hiperform.

I am not a big fan of the 4-lug setup of the VFR750 wheel, but I also have to accept a smaller rim (only 4.5" wide) if I use the VFR400 rim. Does anyone have any input on this decision?

Also what is the stock rear wheel size? What is the benefit of using an 18" rear rim and will it fit?

Spend more money and get a 5-spoker. The Brembo matches the front better.

You can't do the VFR wheel without either keeping the lugs or doing a lot of machine work.

Go with the Brembo wheel and you'll shave nearly 10lbs of rotating mass (you'll gain a pound with the VFR wheel) and spend less money. If the Brembo offends you so much, drop antoher $500 and get a marchesini 5-spoke mag wheel and shave another couple pounds.

With the VFR Wheel you have a Problem with the four bolts on the stock spindle or the four holes on the backside of the wheel.

              Here a stock VFR 400 / RVF 400 Wheel

              Here a modified VFR 400 / RVF 400 Wheel

Or you must change the diameter of the bolts on the spindle.

A good tyre for this wheel is the Bridgestone BT014 , you can use a 150/60ZR18M/C or a 160/60ZR18M/C

              Front : 110/70ZR17M/C , 120/60ZR17M/C or 120/70ZR17M/C

I've never found one of those wheels for less than $450. That, plus the mahcine work you'll have to do, you may as well buy a marchesini for the hawk.

I can't see dumping that much money only to have more spokes.

If you must have 8 spokes and a center nut- get an 8 spoke VFR750 rim and mod it for the Hawk hub.You really limit your tire choices with the NC30 rim.

I guess I could be more clear. Can a VFR400 spindle (that fits the VFR400 wheel) work with the NT650 swing arm? The picture Dirk posted showed how a VFR wheel was modified to fit the NT650 spindle

I think the VFR400 rim would be a bad choice if it is narrower than the stock rim. I was thinking it might equal.

JR, what did you have to do to the VFR750 8-spoke rim besides filling the 4 holes with weld?

to clarify if not already covered VFR400 (NC30) rear wheels are all 18" RVF400 (NC35) wheels are 17" ...lot easier to search if you know what came on what bike.....
