    Does this get hot?

I am trying to find a new place to mount the rectifier. It obviously has fins on it so I assume it gets hot. Can it be crammed in a small area with my fuel pump? I built a small box to go under my monster seat but it is getting cramped - is it cool if i cram this in there with everything - close to the seat, or does it need to have air flow? Also, there is a small hose coming out of my factory fuel pump that used to vent close to the right foot peg - does this need to vent anywhere particular - like not in the path of the rear wheel?

if that doesnt get bolted to something metalic it will burn out very quickly. They are prone to over heating anyway so make sure its not tucked away next to a heat source and if possible bolt it to something made of alloy as this will conduct the heat away better!

    cheers

Thanks. My subframe and the battery box I made for it are both metal but have been painted. Do I need to remove some paint so it is on bare metal?

It needs to be mounted where air can flow over it, on the stock subframe it just peeks out from under the tail cowl under your right leg.

No. No need to remove the paint. Attach to metal only because it helps as a heat 'sink'. The electrical harness ground is within a foot of the CDI, if not directly attached to it. (I cant remember) You should ensure a good bare metal contact (preferrably with dielectric grease) for the harness ground, while you have it apart. Mounting the CDI using messy thremal potting compound (thermally conductive grease) would help, but is probably overkill.
