    Need some measurements..

    Anyone willing to help?

    Just for a run down:

A: Distance from center of pivot to center of hub. Doesn't have to be 100% accurate, I just need a general idea.

B: Diameter of spindle. Need a pretty accurate measurement, but best guesses are welcome (distinguish between the two, please).

C: Pivot bolt diameter. Same as B.

D: Distance between center of chain line and left hand side pivot lug. This has to be pretty accurate and I'd appreciate someone measureing an assembled bike, if possible.

E: Pivot width. Also needs to be pretty accurate. This and D are the determining factors in how much I have to trim off my frame to fit this arm, so I need pretty decent numbers.

F: Distance between center of chain line and surface of hub. Not so important, but would like to know.

    Thanks for the help!

what bike is this going on?
My hawk uses an aftermarket 520 chain... so I wouldn't be able to get you anything dealing with the chain.
I'm also concerned about your measurement 'E' as the hawk uses spacers on the side with the needle bearings... this spacer rests on the hawk's motor. Without these spacers, the swingarm won't pivot correctly as there would be too much friction if it were directly mated to the frame.
It's scary how slow I am!

Center of chainline is going to be pretty similar regardless of chain variety. That particular part doesn't have to be preces...if the rear sprocket is offset the front by a mm or two it's not going to cause serious problems.

As far as the spacer on the Hawk, I'm going to try and mount it without using any spacers. I want it to slide into the frame alone. The TL1000S has lugs in the frame (pic to follor) that have to machined down to fit the arm...the TL's swinger is about 35mm narrower. I intend to machine these lugs down, then reduce their diameter to fit the hawk's arm. A small 1mm cap will have to be used on either end, but that's minimalistic.

By the way, I've stumbled across a good deal on a 748 swingarm and eccentric assembly so I may be going that route instead...it's a proven route. If this guy doesn't try to make up for giving me a good deal by charging me stupid for shipping I'll be doing that. I think I'd rather use the hawk's arm, though...dunno why...

Hmmm... I see. I do have two spare swingarms... One of them was a botched backyard surgery for an FZR bolton. The other is untouched. Both have the eccentric carriers and I have at least one complete hub and rotor. I can't remember if I have a spare rear brake or not. I do have a spare Hawk rear rim as well, but a 160 tire wouldn't look to good on a TL. I'll try and get measurements tomorrow.

IIRC, the TL uses a linked rear suspension and the Hawk is just a direct suspension - do you see this as being a problem? It'll be easy to use a Hawk rear shock, but I think used 748 shocks are better and readily available.

The TL uses a direct shock like the Hawk...however, spacing is a pita and my shock options are really shitty.

I just bought a duc arm, but I've still got the GT arm I may tinker with a bit. The duc shock is about 300mm eye to eye and the useable space with this arm is 280mm. If you can think of any other shocks that might be useful in that range I'd appreciate it.

Odds are I'm going to be stuck with an Ohlins for a TL1000R...only about $800....

ok, these are the measurements that I took.

Here's a closer up pic of the assembled end of the hub.

              I forgot measurement 'F'

                Thanks Kennie! That's greatly appreciated.

You wouldn't happen to have a spare wheel to go with one of those swingers, would you? I may be interested in picking on up in the near future.

That's ok about F...I messed that up anyway. I would have needed to know the clearance between the the hub surface and the swingarm, but it's not going to be an issue if I run a 160 on it. Considering I've got the Ducati assembly coming I'll likely not use the hawk stuff on my TL...but if I don't use it on the TL I may use it on my EX500 project.

...on the other hand I may sell it all to recoup some of my investment.

When I looked at my spares, I do have a complete rear end with stock shock and rear wheel. The shock is a bit torn up, but will support (a little) weight. Make an offer if you need it.
                    Good luck with your mods
