    Fuel Pump Intake/Output Ports...

Ok can't seem to get any help from the manual here... Which tube sucks in the fuel and which one pushes it out on a stock fuel pump? For reference, let's say the wires are at 6 o' clock and the ports are at 12 o' clock and 6 o' clock.
it looks to me like the intake is at 12 o' clock or on the opposite side of the electrical plug.

    help.

I am in process of redoing my fuel lines. I am 99% sure the inlet (sucks in) to the pump is at the same "o'clock" as the wires, meaning if you have the wires on the bottom, the inlet is on the bottom. I am leaving the 1% there for the chance I confused them on install, I intentionally marked them but ... I will be 100% this weekend after I get the wiring done.

        sunshine?! ....jesus!

anyway, yeah i referenced that pic already myself and made note.
so that makses kip wrong, no? appreciate the help, fellas.

also, if i was cranking on the starter button with a 3 foot length coming off the suck side of the fuel pump into a remote gas tank, would it not have enough power to suck it up that far and also uphill a little bit?

maybe my fuel pump is bad or how does it decide when to turn on and off?

I think I read somewhere that the pump only pumps when the ignition is firing....or what people have done is short out the relay so it pumps when
ignition is turned on. The relay is there so in the unlikly event of an accident the pump stops when the engine stops even thou ign is still on.
Therefore do this at your own risk

This matches what I was *trying* to say . Definitely need to work on my description skills . Thanks brewsy for a much clearer description.

I'm slightly confused now. I took my lines apart over the weekend but I made sure to write IN on the fuel pump where the inlet hose was connected before I disconnected it. With the fuel pump installed in the stock position the intake was connected to the lower tube, from the diagram it looks as if the intake should be the upper tube. (side note, I guess my fuel pump could have been rotated in the rubber mounting sleeve) Anyway I put it back together the way I took it apart, so I hope I don't tear anything up when I fire it up this afternoon.

Mate, I think the pump inst much of a pump either so it probably helps to have some gravity feed of petrol to the thing.
If you've got the tank off then try disconnecting the feed to the carbs from the pump and temporarily connecting your petrol tube to the carbs.
That way you can fill up the float bowls first then reconect everything as normal and if spark etc. is OK bike will start a lot quicker..

                You working on it tonight?
I might have to go out with a mate but if he cancels I can pop round..

Hopefully I will not make this more confusing ... I think you are good. The pump in my bike is rotated about 90 degrees counter-clockwise from how the diagram appears, which makes the inlet lower.

well today i just jumpered my fuel pump to first make sure it was even working. with a puff of brown dust and a putter like an RC car it was up and pluggin' away. actually, marc, with that powerful little hum it was making i feel like it could suck a golfball through a garden hose or i could be wrong. ....or i could be thinking of a completely different euphomism altogether.
either way, it's working and may 11th is coming almost too fast.
                    shit!
