    Vapor tach wiring...

Finally got around to wiring up the vapor unit on the weekend. I haven't seen anyone post up a solution for the jumping around that the tach does, so i assume that there is no fix for it...

What has been the most successful wiring for the tach? I originally tried the stock tach wire in the headlight bucket, then later wrapped the wire around the front right plug wire. Seemed to work the best there.

I tried the same thing you did with the wire from the stock tach......it displayed the idle just fine but as soon as you give it a tiny bit of throttle the vapor redlines! So I just wrapped it around the rear spark plug wire since it was easy to reach....I'll probably switch it to the front later on when I continue with rebuild. (I put it on hold for this summer)

Ok... thanks for the info... No one has called Trailtech? I may get around to that this weekend. They may be able to offer some advice.

Well, I don't have a TrailTech, I have an Acewell and I'm trying to figure out the same thing. -Unstable tachometer readings... I have it around the rear plug wire because it was easy to reach, but yeah, it jumps all over. I was wondering (because the instructions say something about it) would a 1 Mohm resistor help that?

Anywhoo, before I do that I need to figure out where I've gone wrong as I keep fucking something up and blowing my IGN fuse. Sometimes after riding for a good 20 minutes at least, and then immediately after if I try to fix it and then put a new fuse in.

I absolutely hate electrical systems when they go wrong, which for me is all the time. I just don't understand that stuff and always screw it up.

as far as the fuse blowing....check to see that no wires are left bare and touching anything. I kept blowing some fuses and found that I had two wires I forgot about hangin and they kept touching and blowing the fuses

Did you guys have any problems wiring the indicators. I cannot gat the warning light to work with both indicators only one. When it does work with both they act as Hazards.
              I agree Bike electrics suck.

Just wanted to post and say I also have the Vapor installed (came with bike) and the tach is all over the place. Now the bar graph appears to be pretty good but the actually digital #'s vary around 700 rpm.....I wouldn't consider that accurate.

I plan on fabbing a new custom bracket to hold the Vapor and the original Tach. I don't understand this thing....it's like it has too much coffee in it. 2500 rpm...3260....1800....4000....????????

I just ran it the way stock is... one light for both signals... don't really care which one is one... it's cancelled the same way.

I do have a bit of an issue with the high beam indicator flashing when one of the signals is one... will have to fix that.

                    Yeah Bill

I have that issue as well. the left signal is fine. But when I turn on the right signal the high beam light flashes along with the signal light.

I am going to work on some issues with the vapor this weekend and if I figure it out I'll let ya know.

yeah, it was either the right or left... I believe there is a diode in the original cluster... that's how it appears on the schematic anyway. Will most likely just have to add that.

Did anyone ever get their Trailtech tach to work properly?

Not that I'm aware of - mine doesn't work worth a crap.

"Oh, look at the pretty lights!" and that's about all it's good for.

Does the Vapor Hook to one spark plug? How is it wired?
