Forgive me For this Float Height question.

I'm basically just making sure that it's ok that the float on the right hand side of the picture is lower than the float on the left which I use to set the level at 9mm. I don't think the lower float will effect the float level by much but I'd like to get any of your opinions or experience with this. If it needs to be adjusted, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

That's a tricky one. So one of the pair of floats is higher than the other? I assume the pair from the other carb are level? Can the arm of the errant float be (carefully) bent back into position?

As far as I can recall, the other floats in for the rear cylinder carb also had the same difference which is what lead me to believe it was a design feature.

I Didn`t want to go bending anything until I know for sure that it is an error rather than design.

If it is causing my fuel level to be different though, it would make alot of sense as J.D. has being continually suggesting the float levels are likely the cause of my jetting "difficulties / learning experiences / I want my free time back for actual riding and such"

      Thanks for the reply.

Does anyone recall if they had a difference between the two halves of the float.

I confess I've not checked the float heights in six years of owbnership. Too much scope for error, I reckon.

I have a spare set of carbs in the shed. I'll take a look and see if the floats are similar to how you describe.

Cheers for the help. I'm in the middle of tearing the carbs apart again right now. Gonna check if it's the same deviation on both floats

I wouldn't worry too much about slight differences, as long as the height average is ~9mm you're good. It's when the floats are at 6mm or 14mm or whatever that things get wonky. The fuel is continuallly sloshing around anyway, so a bit o' difference won't hurt.

I checked the float heights again and they're all set at pretty close to 9mm now. I've also decided to start from scratch on my tuning. Starting with the 168/162 combination. I think the combination of only being able to test ride around town on roads at night had left me largely concentrating on mid range power whilst changing the main jets. I need to properly go for a ride and check the top range.

I'm pretty sure however that if I do end up with jets up in the 160's then my needle position will probably have to move to the first position to sort out the mid range.

I definitely need to do some tuning of my butt dyno. Again, it's all a never ending learning curve, over countless late nights I think i've managed to read every decent relevant article on carb tuning and suspension tuning. Hopefully someday I might actually have advice worth listening to.

For now, My ohlins is coming on Thursday hopefully in good condition and the weather report is all good for the weekend test runs.
