Pretty eerie because I was just testing Unis vs. K&N pods on the dyno before I read this! I wanted to check again just to be sure I wasn't spouting BS. Sure enough the Unis make better power. Midrange and top end. The differences aren't huge, but they are there. The A/F ratio goes rich with the K&N's so they don't flow as much as the Unis, plain and simple. However, I have found that if you over-oil the Unis, they will lose their advantage.

Another proof that I think like HORD!
So just how much oil is enough? I think I over oiled mine.BIKES: Honda: RC31 Racebike/ NT650 Streetbike, DUCATI: None at the moment.

because i could totally see some grit getting by and over time distroying a street motor... (meanwhile a track motor could last its normal life that way)

If you ride tons of miles in a dusty environment, yeah, I would use a regular filter oil (light application!) to keep the fine stuff from getting thru. The key is to not get the things sopping wet with oil, then the airflow goes right down the crapper.
To answer the other Q, yes, a stock engine will pick up some power pod filters vs. stock airbox. But whether a couple of hp is worth $117.95 to you, I can't answer.
