anyone use a chain breaker rivet tool?

just borrowed this tool from friend and he said he never used it.

I was just wondering for flaring out the rivet, how tight or how far do you go or do you just do it as hard/tight as you can?

you should messure the diameter that the rivet has deformed to and they should give a spec diameter to fallow.

also if the rivet starts to crack you have gone to far.

thats how it was explained to me but i have never used one my self.

        noise from where?

when i look at a chain, i watch the area where it goes from a sprocket and "dips" loose...... if the chain has any bind at all, you can usually see it if you're watching that area

example.. on a stand, rotate the wheel backwards by hand.. the top is tight, but the chain coming off the bottom of the rear sprocket is slack.. you can see if it "kinks" a bit in one area.. if you see it jump at all, check it with your hand and see if its binding..

lots of things make noise.. chain rollers, chain guides... improper gear meshing.. tightspot in the chain, chain too loose.. chain too tight... strectched too far for the gears, ect..... you just kinda have to narrow it down...
