    f2 brake rotors

i have warped rotors up front, after a couple of track days and i am looking to replace them. there are a set of f3 rotors on e-bay that are quite affordable but i do not know if they are swappable.

anyone know the particulars between the f2 and f3 brake rotors?

    any help would be appreciated.

    thanks.

The F2 rotors have the larger Honda mounting bolt pattern the same as the stock Hawk front wheel where the F3 front wheel uses the smaller mounting bolt circle similar to all of the more common Honda sport bikes.

So first off the F3 disc rotors will not bolt to the F2 front wheel.
The F3 disc are larger in diameter so they would not work with a F2 fork if that what you are also using.

    F2 disc are 276mm
    F3 disc are 296mm

Is it normal for discs to warp after a couple of trackdays? Doesn't it mean summink else is at fault?

        Al,
what size are the BROS disc's (rotors) and would their pattern fit the F3??

I wouldn't say its 'usual' to warp but the biggest difference between the F2 and F3 is not necessarily the diameter but rather the fact that the F3's are semi floating.

On the F2's the disc bolts directly to the wheel so if you do a lot of spirited stopping the disc will try to expand rather quickly.
If this is perhaps on a track where you are hammering them after a long straight then the thermal expansion may cause them to warp as they cant expand uniformly as the inside portion is directly stuck to the wheel.

The F3's are held onto the wheel with 'buttons' which allow a lot more thermal expansion and therefore ease off the potential for warping.
Also notice that although they are of bigger diameter they actually are 'thinner' than the ones on the F2.

On race brakes they are truly floating and the buttons are very loose to the extent that the disc sounds really rattly!!

            Hi JR,
the BROS disc has 320mm diameter and the BROS - Wheel uses a bigger mounting bolt circle with 8mm bolts , the F3 has 6mm bolts and a smaller mounting bolt circle

I have an F2 front end that the brake rotors are in poor shape and I was wondering what type most are replacing them with.

thanks for the tech info as well as to you brewsy.

looks like it is back to e-bay or worse, to oem prices.

fyi, the f2 discs and well, the entire front end, i bought used, so there is no saying what shape they were in (well used, nearly new) when i got them. i do know they were straight as i had not a problem with the discs until track day #2.

and to respond to brewsy's question, which he will see with his own eyes soon enough, there are two tight turns right at the back of two straights, so yeah, there was some long running along with some tight braking to make it all work out.

                thanks for the tips.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. Ta.

Being that it is a used set up i do not know if you just botled it on and began using the fork assembley or if you double checked everything??

It is common for the the floating caliper type brakes found on the F2 fork and the Hawk fork to end up not sliding as they should due to rust or other crap being on the the slider pins of the caliper. The rubber boot could of been damaged for years and water and crap has managed to get between the pin and the caliper and it keeps the caliper from moving properly while using the brakes.

If the caliper does not move properly on the pins it can cause damage to the rotor.

I MAY have a set of f2 rotors you can have... I need to check, they may have gone out with the bike i sold.
