    Under bike exhaust fabrication

    Hello all,

I have searched read the relavent posts and I would like to know if anyone has successfully modified the stock headers to accept an under-bike exhaust mounting.

If you have, could you shed a little light on this for me. How difficult, etc. I am trying to get rid of the ugly and quiet factory system, but I don't want to spend $500 on an exhaust. I look the look of the "buell-stlye systems and I see a number of them are out there.

Thanks for all the help guys!

I have modified the stock exhaust, just cut the header pipes and the shortened a D&D can. It is somewhat of a side mount, not a real under the bike mount. Here is the link of what I have done: http://www.hawkgt.com/photoalbum/dis...lbum=356&pos=2

Contact JD Hord. He did my exhaust and it looks like it was factory done. Not to mention Hord is an all around good guy.

well.. mine started out as a two bros left exit exhaust.

i cut the exhaust under the bike so i had the two header pipes... still equal length. about 35" on both.

i then made a "front part" for the two bros can... two pipes that just fit over the header pipes, ground and welded together, then welded onto a flat piece of sheetmetal.. then i welded a loop of sheetmetal behind it so i had somethign to rivet to the muffler.

then i built the internal of the muffler to smoothly merge together, and have a slight megaphone shape (a few inches past the merge, the cross section enlarges...

then i wrapped the perforated internals with muffler packing packed it all together.. i kept the standard cast TBR endcap...

i reused the TBR stainless steel strap from the system and bolted it to the centerstand bolt area...

works good and all... very quiet as far as most exhausts go... but not TOO quiet. i think alot of it is the fact that the exhaust is so low..

theres another route im going to take on my next exhaust.. a nice Ymerge, then a shorter, more conventional slipon.. kinda like the M4 system everyone else here has.. but looking a little diff...

I'm not sure if I'm at liberty to discuss that.

I really can't remember but I know that it was about the same price at the stock M4

I'm guessing the header pipe is the M4 as well. My 2" TBR pipe collectively joins mid way under the engine. Therefore not enough room for the shortened can unless I get into some serious fabrication.

The only thing about this and the stock pike is if you need to get into the right case you have to struggle with getting the rear pipe off. I guess that is a minimal concern. If you need to get into the engine. You might have some bigger issue.

                its really not that bad.
if you dont want to get into anything custom, you can still do it, just make the can shorter.

I'm thinking 8" is short enough before I remove the entire mufler and go for the high power motor boat idle sound. Wich I love.

Believe me it wasn't easy. When I picked her up she had been sitting outside her whole life, leaky front fork seal, missing a mirror etc. My wife asked me recently in passing how much of "our" money I though I'd spent on the bike and I had to take the 5th. I tell you one thing. I WILL NEVER, EVER GET RID OF HER. (the bike and maybe the wife).

Thats one of ideas I have for mine also. I am however considering cutting mine off about 4" at the top of the high mount modpipe and cutting the care to about 10".
I wouldnt want to lose alot of powere and by understanding you lose a bit with an under engine exhaust.
