    Cylinder head gasket leak

Ever since I've had my Bros there's been a very slight oil leak from what seems to be the rear cylinder head gasket round the very back. It is a very slight leak i.e. you can run your finger just below the head and there is a very slight residue of oil after a few days of riding. Is this anything to be concerned about? Should I just keep an eye on it or get it sorted ASAP? The front side of the rear and the front pot are dry as a bone so no leaks there.

My bike does the same thing. Not to worry, but checking your oil level often is a good thing. You could try torquing down the rear cyl head bolts, if they already are and the seeping really bothers you it is easy to replace the headcover gasket.

Remember that oil blow-by is caught in the airbox. If your bike is anything like mine it produces a reasonable amount (a dribble, say) after a long hard run. If the airbox isn't on the carb rubbers 100% right it can ooze past (usually when the bike's on the sidestand), giving the appearance of some sorta oil leak (I could have sworn mine was the front head gasket).

Might be worth checking out ...

I had a similar problem, weeping from the valve cover gasket on the rear cylinder. It was like that for quite a while with a negligible oil loss over time. No harm done. As said before, it is easy to replace the rubber seal. I think the carbs can even stay on. Maybe. I was due a valve check anyways, so replaced it and the sealing washers under the cover bolts at the same time. No more oily rear cylinder for me. It's funny, the front never leaked, still hasn't...

man... i have the same exact problem right now. I need to take the tank off... which is what I have been saying for the past 2 months. Everything is honky dory though. Trace oil leak which I believe is from the front head cylinder gasket, and my oil level is fine. Oh wells...

Mine does the same thing from the front of the rear cylinder, but the oil level stays where it should and she's never run better.

Next time I am in the head I am going to swap out the button head cap nuts. I have a feeling that I am bottoming out on the cap and not getting the appropriate torque on the head thru the sleeve to the case. Hence maybe getting a slight leak on the front head in the front.

i have similar slow seeping at base gasket on blue Hawk, none on red one.
adding a minimal amount of oil periodically is much nicer than a teardown.

im betting that dribble is actually from the airbox..... thats how every hawk ive seen does it...

not saying its the only thing, but theres always a good bit of oil from that crankcase vent....

As a Harley owner I can tell you oil leaks are not really a problem unless you fail to check your oil level enough. My hawk drips a bit, but the harley, well, lets just say that I never have to oil my boots

                            Gasket leak

I have the same problem, both from the head gasket and base gasket. It sounds from the posts above that the head gasket isn't so hard to replace, which is good news.

I called my local Honda dealer a couple of days ago to see what it would cost me to have both gaskets replaced on both cylinders. They quoted me $600 for labor alone, and the gasket sets coming out to about $160!

I guess I can live with watching the oil and wiping off that leak every week or so...
