Trailtech Vapor - RPM readings not right

I attached the wire to the back left spark plug, I've tried all the settings on the Vapor, nothing reads right. Also, when I close the throttle, the Revs on the Vapor go up, to what seems correct.

Does the hawk have a really weird firing order for 2 of the plugs? I figure I can probably just attach it to the back right plug, but thought I'd ask.

    Thanks

From what I've read on the forum...no one has managed to get the Vapor to correctly read the rpms. Even when I think it reads in the right range, it will easily jump 500-1000 rpm. I believe it is directly related to there being four plugs. I haven't called Trail Tech yet.

Did you try to switch between the Pulses per Revolution setting? I haven't done it yet but I wonder if that will help. Mine is currently set a 1 ppr but I wonder if 0.5 ppr would be more accurate?

I honestly gave up on it and am working on fabricating a new instrument bracket to house the stock tach and the Vapor.

I emailed tech support... they're sending a resistor wire to try. Although I already tried adding a resistor wire inline with no help. Once it arrives, I'll report back.

I did notice on another bike site that people had better luck with just a couple wraps on the wire, instead of 5-ish... So I will be trying that as well.

I've tried the different PPR settings, I'll try to other plug, and less wraps. I'll also put it on my buddys Buell and see if it reads accurate.

What's the deal with the resistor?

Has anyone tried attaching the wire to the coil terminal, I saw that in the instructions as an option. will it work? has anyone tried it?

If you use the factory wire in the headlight bucket, that's exactly where it goes... right to the coil. It was more erradic than wrapping it around the plug wire.
