    Bar end mirrors don't fit????

Hey guys, so I my bad ass bar end mirrors came today but when I removed the stock bar end there is not enough room for these to go into the handle bar...Sorry if this is a stupid question, but can the piece of metal inside the bar, the one that the end screws to be removed???...Right now I just built a spacer and put the stock screw in, so they are on but not the way I want...These are made to go inside hollow bars and then expand with a screw to hold tight...Well I can't get them in b/c my bars are not hollow, what am I missing here?

    Thanks,

    Jason

I have the same type of mirrors. The metal rods inside your bars are end weights. I just removed mine altogether, which gives you the needed room, but it makes your hands vibrate a little bit (nothing major).

Thanks, How do you remove them, I tried installing the screw and pulling but that didn't do anything, I just want to make sure we are talking about the same thing, I unscrewed the end of the bar and what I am trying to remove is the "inside" portion, female treaded metal thing inside the bar...

You have to tap out the long weights (assuming you have the stock bars). The Napoleons and other bar ends usually use 8 mm, and I'm pretty sure the stock bar weight is bored for 6 mm.

I think the weights "hook" into holes on the stock bars and you need to tap/depress to remove 'em. Never actually looked under my grips to check this, though.

EDIT: you have to remove the grips and depress the retainer clips that hook into the bar, about 1/4" in from the end. Check section 12-4 of the service manual. (And don't let GTFever see this, he gets cranky about the whole service manual thing.)

Ah hell, ok, guess I'm just gonna try to fashion some kind of "collar" to make this work, b/c I don't want to F with any of that stuff...I think I am gonna have to use something plastic/nylong though b/c I am hearing a buzz at higher rpms, can't pinpoit where, but since I didn't hear it before putting these on I am guessing it is them... Here is the picture of what I have done below...I just used the "expander" as I collor to rest on the threaded weight inside the bar...It sticks out too much though, I am gonna find a shorter plastic collar and see if that works:
