Wasn't thinking, shorty supertrapp, need some help (bracket)

    Hey guys,

So my Supertrapp shorty will be here anytime, but I woke up last night thinking about this, yes I dream about Hawk things lol...How am I going to fab a bracket to hold this thing, as my current muzzy is held on at the passenger peg???...I remember someone saying they used their center mount bolt hole locations, but how do I do that????...Is there a bracket I can buy that will work???...What material would I fab one out of, round bar??? Do I even need one, or can the headers support the weight of the small shorty can???? I am lost, and feeling like I didn't think this through, I just got excited and bought it...Can you all help me out...Pictures of what you have done, or diagrams would help me, as I am a visual person...Thanks guys,

    Jason

Ok, just got off the phone with supertrapp, and they said this is what I need:

Well hell this is just a simple clamp, but I am thinking that I can line it up maybe with the center stand holes and run a bolt all the way through? If not do you all have any recommendations as to where to attach it?? I hate to just run a wire through it and wrap it around my rearsets, ghetto style, lol...

You will need some sort of mounting point. I had my shorty supertrapp on there without a mounting for a bit and it bounced around a lot.
You will also want to get an exhaust shield to deflect the exhaust away from your tire. http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/images/su4052120.jpg
Sorry to say I don't know your setup so I can not tell you what to go get. Like all things hawk, you can get a lot of guidance and ideas here but in the end you need to figure out your own solution.
I would get it on there and just drive it down to a muffler shop and have them fab you a bracket to conect the clamp that holds the can on to the center stand mounting hole.

If I get a chance and remember I will try and take some shots of what I did but I am pretty bad at that.

      Good luck

I am going to mount mine a little further back then you, and it will follow an up line like my muzzy, if I do that will I need to have a sheild????...I can't imagine mine will be pointed at the tire, isn't that only for exhausts that exit right on the tire???? Please let me know...

On another note, I just went to the auto parts store, and I believe a standard "C" clamp exhaust hanger will work, I will just weld an "L" bracket to it that mounts with a bolt to the center stand...Something like this:

This exhaust on the back tire has got me a little worried though now...How close/pointed at the tire does it have to be to not have one???

        Thanks,

That'll look ghettoriffic - I'd get the recommended kind mainly because other than looking cheap and nasty it'll rust and look worse.

There are 2 bosses on the rear side of your right heelguard- get yourself a piece of aluminum bar stock to run from them to your muffler.

LOL! That is a good idea you have, can you tell me how you would attach to the can though??? I figure you mean just attach with the screw in the heal gaurd for the frame, but how would you get the other end attached to the can? Could you diagram it? Or do you mean that flexible hangar stuff and just bend it around the can and attach both sides to the bolt on the gaurd???

Joel, my man you are a genius!!! I looked at those bolts and they are dead over where the shorty will run, I'll just wrap it with an aluminum strap like you recommended...Where would you get the strap, like home depot, or would you get a "special" one or something, can you point me in the right direction, my exhaust will be here tomorrow and I already have my muzzy apart and the "y" pipe off ready to cut down...

You _could_ just get some plumbers tape or whatnot and make a strap but buying the one Supertrapp recommended would be much cleaner looking - or you could go ahead and Home Depot it in the meantime.

Yeah, not sure, I swear that "special" bracket from supertrapp looks exactly like a pvc hangar to me...I think I'll get a strap, shape it to fit nice, and then paint it black and see what it looks like...On a different note, how do you all think my rusty "y" pipe would look painted black with high temp. paint??? I tried to clean the rust up, but it is too bad to bring back to life, painting is the only option at this point...

take a wire wheel to the y pipe before you spray it black otherwise itll look all pitted and the paint will eventually flake off
