    orange drip?

Hey, I have an orange gooey drip that looks like its leaking out of the nut that seals the gastank to the Fuel valve. Any idea what that is? and what does one use to seal that nut?

How viscous is the liquid? If it's thin, I would also say rust in the gas. If it's thick, I can't imagine what it is. I know some fuel filters are orange plastic, but I have no idea what would make one "melt" and drip out of the tank.

I have tank sealer in one of my tanks (that is unusable), which I think is Kreem, and it is kindof light brown. I might think it could drip out if it had been recently done and the petcock nut was loose, but if it has cured I wouldn't think it would. Otherwise the only liquid likely to come out of a tank would be gas with some rust.

You can look in the tank with a flashlight to check for rust and/or tank sealer.

Only other thing I can think of would something was spraying fluid (radiator, or oil) on the bottom of the tank and it is running down the petcock. Not sure how likely this would be though. If this were the case I would think it would be all over the engine too.

As far as sealing the nut. You can try just tightening it, but I don't think it needs much torque. You should probably check the manual. I don't think it has a gasket or anything, but I never pulled the whole thing out so I'm not sure.

Taste it! Does it taste like orange? Just kidding, I'm stumped

Is it a thick, as in....solid but soft? If so, could it be a sealant like you would use on an engine? you know that hi-temp stuff, maybe someone before you used it to seal around the petcock.

if the tanks been sitting awhile...it could be varnish..or bad gas... this can be cleaned up with a combination of muriatic acid and water...you can fill the tank, swish it around, and once most of the water is drained just rinse with acetone to get the rest out.. the last little bit is always hard to remove but just stuff a clean rag in the gas inlet hole on top and shake the tank around..the leftovers will be absorbed when they hit the rag..

                +1 on the varnished gas

I remeber someone saying it can clog the petcock filter
the one time i took mine apart to clean it, there was nothing bad at all.
