How LOUD is it without the plates?
my new "barnhawk" has a supertrap and it has numerous plates,
and it is LOUD as shit, when it was backfiring, actual flames where
coming out of the end.
im thinkin the more plates that you put on... the less muffling that is done. i put one plate on and it was quiet as crap! i need to put 8 plates on or so right now im thinking since that is waht it was jetted for? the spark plugs are leaned out or fouled up running with no plates though..
it's pretty loud pretty much a straight pipe. i like it

I don't know about NO plates, but you are correct in that adding more plates reduces muffling and increases the db. My Hawk's previous owner had put on Supertrapps (and I also got the extra plates).
...remember, traffic signals sync'd for 35mph, are also sync'd for 70mph...
does taking all the plates off hurt performance.. having it open ended.. all i know is it sounds great with none on
What's your intake situation? Jetting? Airbox or no? Any other engine mods?
It's a good chance you're hurting optimum performance with no plates/end cap. I've noticed a difference in performance when removing around 3-4 discs at a time.
8 is recommended with stock jetting and airbox.
10-14 with pods and jet kit.
If you have the discs and end cap, start with 8 and play with it.
