Question about TBR exhaust systems

are the headers normally this close to the coolant hose?

Yes.
Yours looks a little closer, though. Loosen the exhaust studs and swing it away as much as possible. Might gain about 1/8-3/16 more room. Ditch the silly hose slinky (not needed) and apply a small patch of self adhesive aluminum tape on the rad hose to help reflect heat.

Also sometimes you can loosen the 2 bolts securing the waterpump to the engine case and rotate it back a bit, to get a little more clearance.

my water pump tube was bent a bit to give a little more clearance too....
