    exhaust question...

    okay...
I've run a sawed-off Muzzy y-pipe collector as my exhaust "system" for over a year. I've been doing this with a Stage 1 and stock airbox, so I run lean, but there will be a Stage 3 and Unis in there soon...

    Two problems:

    1) there's no way I've found to clamp down on the gap between the stock headers and the Muzzy, so exhaust is escaping... is there a better way? I've thought of wrapping them (and I really like the look of seasoned white header wrap) but how do I wrap the headers & collector when they're in sections that come apart? How much of a bitch would it be to get the exhaust off if it was all welded together & wrapped? I'd have to drop the engine out to get the exhaust off then, wouldn't I? That may be worth it...

    2) even with the Stage 3 and Unis, this is a straight-through exhaust and I'm probably still going to run lean, right? Anybody know where I'd find a baffle to have welded in?

I use one of these clamps from supertrapp and make a little gasket with aluminum foil. Works pretty good and I don't have an escaping gas. Call em up and order the size you need.

i wouldnt start welding pipes together if i were you, especially if you ever plan on casually removing the pipes without cutting shit and breaking skin.. Try to fab a gasket like this: Measure the diameter of the collector inlet and write it down, then go to your local auto-parts store and ask them for an exhaust gasket that goes from the exhaust manifold to the head pipe...of any car. They are round, soft, metallic gaskets that if you could slip into your gap, would work perfectly once clamped down!

Keep me posted if you try this...i just came up with it

Yeah that's the better way to do it. That aluminum foil shit is hillbilly, but it does work.

I've used aluminum foil, Red Bull cans, strips of aluminum flashing...

...thanks for the gasket idea, and the Supertrapp clamp idea, guys. That's what I'll get.
