  • Engine Weight

    Hi All,
does anybody have a rough idea how much the bare 647 Hawk motor weighs?
Looking to get prices on shipping one.

    Thanks,

    Marc

Also has anybody got any (cheap) reccomendations for shipping companies that can handle a bike motor? Speed (or lack of) isnt an issue.

    Thanks,
    Marc

Marc, if this is in reference to our situation...I'm glad that's already settled...if not, you can use this info I'm sure.

Generally, anything over 150lbs I use a freight company called R+L Carriers (the biggest reason I couldn't use them for you is that shipping to and from Manhattan adds a gargantuan fee for some reason). Their site is www.rlcarriers.com and their prices are top notch. I've used them for shipping motors, trannies, large car parts, wheel sets and even whole bikes (CBR929RR freighted from Biloxi to Phoenix for $315 door to door...hard to beat).

If it's under 150lbs but more than 100 I try to use DHL. Their rates are pretty reasonable but their billing process and handling process both suck.

If it's under 100lbs, UPS's rates arehard to beat if you can get someone with an account to handle the stuff for you.

The Hawk GT's engine, dry, apparently weighs 156lbs.
