    front brake upgrade

Does anyone know of a way to upgrade the front brake caliber using the stock Hawk forks and a 3.5 inch F2 wheel?

    #2
Member HPbyGD makes a left side bracket for the Tokico six pot caliper

    Check the "members parts sticky"

You'll need to source the caliper ( plentiful on eBay ) and a floating rotor

The EBC Pro light or "Wave" rotor Such as JD sells

He'll also be able to get break pads for you

Check my "Hawk Porn" photos below for some pics of it

And I did a rebuild on my ex's Tokico just a few months ago so there is a thread about that as well

Or you can do what I did: get a right side fork lower from a CB-1, use the F2 wheel and F3 calipers/master and an extra Hawk rotor. Will take a little fiddling to get it all aligned, but it is quite do-able.

First upgrade would be steel-braided brake lines if you haven't done it already.

As Spa mentioned, Gary makes the brackets for you to be able to upgrade the caliper to a 6 pot caliper and use a floating or wave rotor. He used to make the brackets for the late Steve "Godfadda" Lenac which was sold as the Lenac Brake kit. I have the setup and it is amazing how much it changed your braking, it it 1 and 2 finger braking easily and will stop on a dime with the kit.

Here is a photo of my front end with the bracket, 6 pot caliper and EBC Pro Lite race rotor....

Here is a write up done about the brake kit from a few years back....

single rotor with 6 pot caliper, good pads and SS line will stop like a champ! Only reason for dual disk upgrade if you are going racing or have access to cheap parts

Well that's a whole other story... Do what the fast guys do...

                        F2/F3 forks and dual disks ( I don't know the trick setup/s )

But that's more the norm for the racers... I know the F3 wheel is lighter than the F2 wheel and the reason most street riders don't go that route is the Hawk speedo drive won't fit the F3...

But most racers have a tach and temp gauge and maybe a lap timer

See if some of the racers will fill in the blanks for you

I probably should have gone with the CBR front end but I already spent the money for race tech emulators and springs so I'm committed to running the Hawk forks. At 56 I'm not looking to tear up the track. I'm hoping to race for a whiile and put the Hawk back on the street when I get that out of my system.

I've installed an CBF650 cappiler on mine. Might be a (cheap) option.

Are all 3 pistons working? From what I can tell with that upgrade, the center piston doesn't push unless you have two brake lines going into it...
                              1989 RC31 - not stock
                              2005 VTR1000 SP2 - not very stock, either.
