    battery relocation/problem

I would just like to know what everyone is doing to combat the heat from the tranny/engine when it comes to moving the battery to the old coolant container location. I had moved my battery (Yuasa YTZ7-S) last Saturday to the new location and while on the road about 15 minutes my bike lost all electrical power. I pulled over to the side of the highway and my battery looked like a ball, it had expanded from the heat and was making a really cool whistling sound. I just made a simple aluminum bracket as a hold down to keep the battery out in the open for cooling, I guess this did not suffice. Has anyone else come across this problem and what has been used as a heat barrier so this does not happen? Thanks

    umm, check your voltage regulator.
the external heat from the battery cant/wont do that.. you would melt the plastic case first.

im willing to bet you're probably having a regulator problem and at mid/high RPM you're overcharging the battery, causing it to boil/expand like that.

im just running a nice sheetmetal box/bracket that holds the back/sides.... the bottom and front are on some foam tape and are sitting on the trans/block

I'm playing off of some other designs and still retaining the rear coil location and using a smaller Bat than the 7 series.

I entertained the idea of using the right mounting point of the bottle. Last year I had one snap on me. Actually the frame mount above will provide a much more suitable mounting point + an easier, less complicated connection to the bat box. This will slightly move the top coil mount out the thickness of the material which will be very minimal...

I was worried about the heat when I first put it there also, but after riding for awhile I put my hand on the battery and it was just warm. I was actually more worried about the heat from the rear header.
