That looks like just the screen. The tube I'm talking about is the metal tube that sticks out of the petcock that #7 slides over. On this tank, #7 was half gone and the metal tube was falling apart.

This is a plastic tube and half was down it becomes a fine mesh tube

It has a rubber collar where it fits to the petcock and an o-ring which may be for the petcock to tank seal ?

Anyway just heading out the door and was going to send it...

Question is ...Do you still want it ?

Got your last PM just not sure now

I always thought the long tube was for normal usage, with gas coming in the top half of the in tank filter. then once the gas dropped below that the lower half of the 'intank filter' sucked gas around the metal tube and straight into the bottom of the petcock.

Sure I'll take it, thanks. I will need that. I was wondering if I could just use the petcock without the tube. About 1/2 of it is gone. I was thinking that I would just lose the reserve function but ????

Yep ... with the metal tube shortened, you petcock's "On" range would be greater ... And the "Reserve" range would be shortened. That's one of the main reasons I bought a whole petcock assembly, the rotted-out copper tube doesn't seem to be an easy size to find ... I didn't find it at my corner hardware store.

Thanks! I watch the mileage pretty closely. I haven't hit reserve in years. In over 20 years, I think I have only hit it maybe 2-3 times.

that's exaclty right. The tube just draws fuel from higher in the tank for your "on" setting. Reserve bypasses pipe and draws from near bottom of tank. If it's half there, you'll still have a small diifference between on and reserve I would think.

Anyone know the specs on the size and thread for the petcock? I need to cap the pipe while I acetone the inside.

You handy ? I just cap them with a piece of delrin...or turn a plug.If you cut a cap to 18mm ID you can just force thread it on. stuff 003.JPG+1 to Jan....18x1.....good luck finding that....

In a pinch.....wrap it with tape up to 19mm(3/4") and use a 3/4 rubber tube cap.It may seep a little.

Make sure you plug it using something that can withstand acetone... what about just using a cork from a wine bottle? After checking against acetone, that is...
