    Clutch/Transmission Noise?

I get a kind of whirring sound coming from the motor when its under load. It's not chain or front end noise. Its more noticeable at higher rpms and goes away when the clutch is pulled in/revs drop. It doesn't feel like the clutch is slipping, but it almost sounds like its the clutch plates making noise. I really have no idea how to diagnose noises so if anyone can help me that'd be great.

That description is vague I guess.

Basically if I take off, as soon as the clutch is out and I'm accelerating there's a whirring noise. If you let off of the throttle it dissapates some and will stop if you pull in the clutch. I don't know if its adding to or causing the problem but I have a fair bit of lurch when rollin on/off the throttle, I'm guessing my cush rubbers are far from cushy and I have a fair amount of slack in the chain due to ride height.

I have the same issue right now.

My chain was recently adjusted and am not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Do any of the other gurus out there have ideas?

If those cush drive dampeners are not serviced, the inside "pot-metal" dividers will get beat to sh*#, and destroy the inside of the cush hub housing. Get in there and change them before it's too late!. Also make sure the chain & sprockets are in good condition, and at proper adjustment.

Clutch plates won't make noise when the clutch is engaged.

However there are 2 ball bearings that may be suspected, the one behind the clutch basket or the transmission output shaft bearing behind the front sprocket ( which can be provoked by an over-tightened chain)........

My issue is the whirring sound at speed while in gear and clutch engaged.

          - no lurching when in gear or under acceleration. Smooth as can be.

It's very noticeable when at 50mph or more, and does increase or decrease with rpms. It's only associated with road speed.

          Is the chain too tight?

            Loosten it and listen....

A whirring noise is usually a ball bearing in failure mode.....until it becomes a grinding noise...... then siezes.
