Penske Shock - One size fits all?

If you want to get a Penske (or other, for that matter) shock for the Hawk, do you need to look for a specific size? Or is the shock size universal?

I've seen ads on ebay, etc. for Penske 8981s, and have noticed that they'll often say RZ06, etc. Are ones like this somehow specifically sized/tailored for individual bikes? I've avoided bidding/buying because I don't know enough about this...

    im ordering my penske tomarrow
and im going with them because they will make it for me and my bike

so if you bid on a 8981 and it was made for a 280# guy and your only 130# or vise a versa, you could see where there could be a problem

that other number could be an ID for the spring rate of the shock. you might want to email them with the question.

If you want a Penske for a Hawk you have to get a Penske made for a Hawk. A Penske made for a Yamaha R6 or whatever won't fit. If I understand the question correctly.

The 8981 refers to a style of shock... not a particular model number for a specific application.
