    Chain roller

I would just like to know if it is my chain roller or does everyone else seem to find that they are extremely loud. My old bottom chain slider finally wore down and disappeared on a ride the other day and my chain is solely resting on the roller itself. Embarrassingly loud almost. Anyone else?

I don't notice a noise. Maybe you have to replace the bearing/roller.

Almost like machine gun fire. I rechecked the bearings and the roller, both are in perfect condition. I ordered the replacement chain slider for the bottom and it will not be here for another couple of weeks. My exhaust is loud so it covers the acceleration, but it is rolling to a stop at the lights where it is really noticeable. Good thing I have a helmet on and nobody knows who it is riding the noisy bike.

If the stock slider is completely worn away check to make sure you're chain isn't rubbing on whats left of the steel mount.

id bet thats what it is.

even with the roller there, the chain may still pop over to the metal while you're riding.

Everything below checks out. It is solely the chain running on the roller. Steel chain links running on top of a hard round wheel is the culprit.

you could always replace the wheel with a soft dirtbike chain roller.. they're only like $10.

I tried that at my local Honda shop and the girl behind the counter did not know what a chain roller was . I am going to a bigger city for a few days and hopefully I can find something there.

Being a good Canadian boy, I was even thinking of adding another hockey puck to my bike. We are crazy canucks.

My roller is also loud when the front brake is applied.

Let me know how you resolve the issue.

A hockey puck is actually a softer than the chain roller wheel. If you throw both down on the cement the puck will bounce and the chain roller will clack. I was also thinking about a skate board wheel, they should come in different durometers and they do look cool.

I had/have the same problem with one of my chain rollers. You have the Hiperform one right? Mine was making all sorts of racket so I pulled it off and screwed the bolts in about halfway in the chain roller threads. To my surprise the bolt would wiggle in the threads. I don't know if something should be mentioned to Rod, but there is the possibility that something could be slightly out of spec. I'm not saying there is, but just the possibility. Rod does great work and I am in no way trying to discredit his product.

I have purchased 2 rollers from him and my first one never had a problem, but the second one I had to wait a little while for because it was a new batch. Could be that the new batch was slightly off spec. In the meantime maybe you could try some teflon tape to tighten the tolerance of the clearance between the bolt/chain roller threads and remount.
