    shortening cables

    Hi all,

I've installed lower clipons and now I have excess cable running to my carbs and clutch. The previous owner of my bike had just put new cables on, so I feel its a waste to go out and buy shortened cables. Has anyone shortened their own stock length cables, and what did you do for new cable ends?

try routing them different.IE out past the head light. You might have problems with the clutch when turning at low speeds

you can make them fit if you route them diffrently.. like he said, have it loop out by the headlight..

only downside to this is at full right lock, you MAY have the cable hit the starter button.. depends on the angle of your clipons.

yea, when I turn full lock right the clutch grabs later.. its pretty annoying. But at least its not interfering with anything, like starter buttons. The carbs I can deal with, but I dont want to prematurely wear them out because of binding or kinking them. I'll see how I can reroute them.

I'm having a hard time picturing this, and am about to encounter the same issue. Anyone have a pic of their alternate routing?

excuse the resolution.. i used MSpaint to draw the line, so it looks like crap now.. lol... but heres the basic idea.

up along the frame, out that top gap, across by the headlight, and around to the lever.

I've been having the same problem with my bike. Clips above the triple, and my throttle cable binds up and makes the engine rev at full left lock. New short cables? Or anyone have pics of how they've routed them. I keep getting caught up with too long/bind at full left, or too short and can't turn fully to the right....
