My Bros 650 may have a thermostat issue. Temp uage runs just above bottom line even after a reasonable run 10 km or so in 20 degree Celcius temps or is that OK for these machines. Just got it last weekend.

That`s not ok. check the wiring of the thermostat for corrosion and/or a loose contact.
What was the start of all this?
When did the cogs of my Hawk begin to turn?
Perhaps it is impossible to grasp the answer now,
from deep within the flow of time...
But, for a certainty, back then,
I loved it so much, yet hated so many.
I hurt others and was hurt myself...
Yet even then, I rode like the wind,
whilst my laughter echoed
under cerulean skies...
Normal for me is 1/8" (3mm) of black under the needle. When it is colder than about 10deg C, the engine is cooled more from the wind, and the thermostat shuts down. The needle sits right on the top of the lower white band. Normal.
-I'm sorry....I did not know she was your sister.
-If Buckleys cold mixture went rancid......how would anybody know????
-Dont piss off the quiet guy with the chain saw.

yeah mine runs nice and cool...lots of heat comes naturally off the motor and pipes but the gauge typically sits just above the bottom line..unless just sitting at idle for awhile then it heats up and the fan kicks in...
Mine runs only about 1/3 the way up the gauge except in extremely hot weather- about 1/2 way up the gauge. Jetting, believe it or not has a lot of influence on your engines tempurature. If your carbs are too lean, your bike can actually run on the hotter side of the gauge.
Mine runs just above the C line under normal riding and in traffic jumps to about 1/3 of the way. If it gets about 3/4 the fan kicks in.
I thought that might be unhealthy. In the car world you expect you temp to run halfway and be rock solid. Is this not the case for the average Hawk?
because the cooling system is so small compared to a car. alot of lowspeed stop and crawl city riding can make it goto near the top of the gauge.. THEN the fan kicks on, and it SHOULD come down a good ways.
in the car world.. most drivers are idiots. so 90% of the temp gauges on modern cars are dummy gauges.. they "warm up" then stay in the center. unless it starts to get really hot.
also, notice most cars temp gauges dont have numbers on them anymore.
the reason for this, is that people are ignorant about what temps are ok.
they see 200 something and they freak (thats 93C for alot of you, lol)
really, most modern cars run at 220, and in traffic, heat up to 230-something, before the fans kick on and bring it back to 220-something.
and thats perfectly fine... normal operation.. but people freak when they see it. they freak if they see the needle move up in traffic, even if it will come right back down when the fans kick on.
so the gauges are dummy.. they're either computer controlled, or they are set with a bias, so the center is a dead area with little movement..
On reflection and based on all of the responses here I think I do not have a problem which is cool (choke) by me. Thanks all for taking the time to educate a noob to the Bos (Hawk)

my temp gauge hardly moves above the white I think I noticed it once get into the black but that was in the five oclock crawl to get home (Christchurch version not Auckland version )
