    Nut Trouble! (not spam!)

    Cush drive replacement.

Got the lock nut de-staked but can't break it loose. I used a 200lb roommate standing on the rear brake and left footpeg, 16" breaker bar and then 16" breaker bar + the 24" end of my rearstand! The brake isn't holding the wheel.

In all the posts I searched for, the nut came right off with a breaker bar. Anyone had trouble and used an impact wrench?

I tried tightening it with the torque wrench and the rear brake held 120 ft-lbs without having to stand on it. I think its torqued higher than 120 ft-lbs, although it doesn't seem to have been removed before.

What to do?! Help, Hawk withdrawl...I've got the shakes!

are you SURE you have the nut unstaked?

if you are.. PB blast it.. is it corroded at all?

id PB blast it, let it soak.. tap it with a hammer some.. blast it some more.. then see if it comes loose. if it still wont come loose, put some heat on it.

but be SURE you have the nut unstaked.. LOL.

I started out really carefully because I didn't want to f' up the spindle or the nut. I used a thin jewel screwdriver and ball peen until I could fit a size 6 flat-blade in the gap. Tapped it until it was just barely higher than the rest of the nut.

I shot it w/ WD between tries, I think I'm out of PB but I'll get some more.

I can't remember exactly what we did, but it was a pain in the ass to get it off. It went something like my brother sitting on the bike and holding both brakes, tire was on the ground. We were spinning it through the rear brake when it was on the center stand. there may have been some hammering.

good luck man. Need at least one functional hawk in the triangle.

There once was a guy at CycleGear in Raleigh that had a red one, and there was a blue one parked outside a garden store throughout the summer.

I don't care about them though I want mine!

Mine was a right mother to get off. Eventually I ran it down to the bike shop and a -girl- span it off with an air wrench. The shame ...

I whipped mine off with a 24" breaker bar (manly basket that I am )

Take it off the centre stand, sit chubby mate on bike with foot on rear brake. Unstake your nut , then undo with breaker bar (make sure you are pushing down on breaker bar not pulling it up, all you'll do if pulling up is load up the rear suspension). Job done.

Made the mistake of pulling up last time...

Just got back into town though, I've been at my grandparent's 50th anniversary party, we threw down but I was in the mountains with no Hawk ...

Soaking in PB Blaster, gonna try the breaker bar again tomorrow. If that fails I can borrow an electric impact wrench.

                        Got the nut loose....

There was a little rust under there and now I can't get the collar off thats holding on the cush drive.

I took the wheel and caliper off to try to knock the spindle out but its seized pretty good. I've been soaking it in PB Blaster but it hasn't budged so far.
